which will be slightly more than last season. Better line and Defense, healthier QB, and outside chance we can increase our 52% run ratio slightly.

Umm. No.

Don't see it without a "running" QB.

And it's not necessary, given the other weapons on offense.

Last season they rushed for 2,300 yards.

This year I think they stay right around 2,000 yards while the passing game garners a couple more attempts here & there.

30 rushing attempts per game... 4.2 ypc average... 2,016 yards on the season.

That I can see.

To each there own. The O-line made a tremendous jump last year and can see a smaller but significant jump this year. Plus I believe our D will provide more opportunities.

I don't care whether we run more yards than last year or not, I care about the running game being "effective" and in my book that means 3 things that we were able to last year

1. When it is 3/3-3/6 it should not be an automatic pass. We should run enough in those situations and pick up enough first downs running on those situations make the other team respect both the run and the pass

2. We should be able to run consistently in obvious running situations ie we should be able to pick up 3/1-3/3 consistently running the ball

3. In the red zone esp goal line we should be able to ram it in

Yep.

And it doesn't take 2,500 or even 2,300 yards on the season to accomplish that.

That's why I can see them mixing in a little more passing–especially on first down where the team became way too predictable– and that would be because of the improvement of the youngsters on the offensive line in their pass-blocking assignments.

To get 2,500 yards at a 4.2 per carry average the team would need to have 37 attempts per game. Last year they did 34 attempts per game. I can't see them increasing the attempts per game by 10%, especially with what they currently have at running back... I don't see any of the guys back there being someone you're going to give 24 carries per game to like Murray last season. Nor is it a good long-term strategy for the player's health to give them that many carries.

The Patriots won the Super Bowl rushing for 1,727 yards with the highest total on the team for one individual being 412 yards. The important thing for The Cowboys is to be able to run when we have to, as in keeping a defense honest, running out a clock, when an opponent is vulnerable against the spot, and short yardage situations. We may not have an elite running back on the roster, but we don't need one for the run game to be a threat.

Yeah, but they have Tom Brady and Billy B, arguably the best ever at their respective jobs. We don't.

I doubt it. Although, I believe we will still be a good running team.

I get my optimism is high, but it may be a lofty goal but not unrealistic.

1. Continue to optimize the line
2. Let's Romo play longer
3. Improves defense
4. Captain obvious

I believe this COULD be structural emphasis. I'm from Oklahoma and did not want DeMarco to go, he was not the end all be all. You have to make a decision, the line or the RB. This line will dominate like nothing else this year.

We have the potential to be a more explosive running team. The carries will be divided up much more than last season among guys with something to prove and as much as I love Murray he sure wasn't known for his speed or vision.

This will be a running team and the opposition will have to commit resources to defend the run.

Exactly, we are going to smack out opponents in the mouth until they can prove the can stop it, Our line with its pedigree and age has a chance to be one the best.

I don't think so. Not with this core group of runningbacks. Two of them, Mcfadden and Williams are damaged goods. Randle is not a workhorse and Dunbar is nothing more than a situational player.

Thats a pretty pathetic group to entrust with the best blocking oline in the NFL. We could and should have done better then this during the draft. But we didn't. So no, we won't be gaining more than what we had last year.

The oline will get all the credit, as they should. Instead of sharing it with murray. They still need to be better at pass protection. The first Washington game still pisses me off.

I would bet hard against that whether we had Murray or not.
The team is by far artists best when it's balanced.
DCs will gameplan us and we'll burn them if they overplay the run or the pass.

If the Cowboys end up rushing for more yards than last year, it'll be because we averaged more YPC, because we're not going to run the ball more often, imo.

It wasn't just the Oline that helped Murray.
Almost never having a loaded box due to the efficient passing game helped too.
Bryant and Romo will do that

Two RBs that are a step away from IR and a pint-sized situational RB , leaves one RB on the roster , if he is not in jail. Yeah, they are good to go.

When you have an elite offensive line and a strong passing game you do not need a HOF Coach and QB to run the football effectively.
