Stand alone, at least for now. The Flash and Arrow (which I assume your talking about?) are on The CW and this one is CBS. If it does well they may look into other DCU characters for future shows though which would be nice.

I more mean the same world as MoS and Supes vs Bats that they are building.
Though Flash/ Arrow may be part of that universe as well. No idea. Didn't like either show long enough to keep watching.

CBS partially owns The CW(that is what the C stands for), so it wouldn't be too hard to incorporate Supergirl with The Flash, Arrow and next years DC's Legends of Tomorrow. The W stands for Warner Bros., which is a subsidiary of Time Warner. Time Warner is also the parent company of TNT, which will have The Teen Titans in the future. That makes it possible to incorporate them into the TV universe as well.

They are not part of the movie universe.

You're right, Supergirl needs to have a certain fun factor, it can be a fine line to walk between fun and goofy.
The potential is there so hopefully they can keep a good balance.

This is why I am just turned off by DC.

Too many things to keep up with. Or maybe not...? I don't know what is supposed to fit with what.

Does "Gotham" fit in with the new batman in Dawn of Justice? If not, why do I care about these origins and history?

Are the flash and arrow going to be in the same universe as supergirl? Is this the Same supergirl as dawn of justice is projected to have? Are the flash and arrow going to be in the new movies? If not, do I have to sit through another origin story? If so, do I have to go back and watch a ton of 1 hr episodes to enjoy the movies?

Either it's too convoluted or over saturated.

Plus I've seen the superman and batman stories told way too many times by now. Even their villains stories have been done too many times.

I find this kinda funny to me, having collected literally thousands of comic books growing up (virtually all DC or Marvel). I view almost all campiness (is that a word? ☺️ ) in these films and television as insulting to anyone's intelligence.

Take the old The Incredible Hulk series for example. I admired how much of Bill Bixby's work was delivered straight forward and uncontrived but Lou Ferrigno's conributions were reduced to basically vogueing (flexing muscles) for the camera, weakly performing acts of super strength Mighty Mouse would laugh at, and running meekly away in slow motion at the end of his segment. I would switch back-and-forth from thinking "good stuff" to "that makes me want to scratch my eyeballs out."

I do find some campy stuff tolerable though if the comedic premise is measured. Guardians of the Galaxy was littered with such moments but it didn't seem like they were dumbed down to the audience, like Groot eating a flower out of his shoulder while the group discusses a suicide mission and Star Lord reacts with subdued irritated disbelief. That sort of stuff fits my ideal. On the other hand, the ever telescoping clown hand gun The Joker uses in Tim Burton's Batman to shoot down the batplane is campy genius that makes me want to hurl.

It's all individual personal preferences though.

Most comics now days are pretty much young adult graphic novels. If you want younger audiences there are animated series for that.

I think the comic roots are tailored more toward young adults.

Most comics now days are pretty much young adult graphic novels. If you want younger audiences there are animated series for that.

I believe animated series are slowly being re-targeted primarily towards the preteen demographic. Cartoon Network had an excellent animated series called Young Justice several years ago. The writing was superb. Plots were well-conceived. The artwork was first-rate. I thought for sure Cartoon Network would keep it among its Adult Swim early evening lineup for five seasons minimum.

It was blatantly intended for the 16-29 demographic. I never saw the numbers but it must have struggled even though it was in the right time slot. CN canceled it within two seasons. However, the network sought to solidify its preteen audience by re-tooling the old Teen Titans series as Teen Titans Go! That show lacks any real intelligent content but I think it's widely popular with kids. It would not surprise me that older viewers enjoy it for its campy format too.
