Running back candidates

Frank Pollack was the assistant offensive line coach for the Texans from 2007-2011.

In 2011 a healthy Ben Tate played 15 games in his rookie year for the Texans, rushing the football 175 times for 942 yards, averaging 5.4 yards per carry.

I'm sure that got him a look .

2011 was a long time ago.

I knew what you are getting at. It just isn't happening.

Let's put it this way

'Nothing ' would mean that we go into the season with the RB position as currently constituted

I doubt that

lets wait and see

Everyone sit back, chill, and have a cold one to relieve the anxiety.
The Cowboys are just kicking the tires and looking under every crack and cranny for
any and all talent that could be acquired cheaply and easily. The Cowboys are
in the talent acquisition business just as Stephen said recently.

Now take it easy cause it's still a long time to training camp guys.

We need a bowling ball to wear down and erode defenses.

Right build, wrong style of runner.

Not especially long. Does he still have the capability to run as he did as a rookie? That's what they're going to see. He understands a zone scheme. Why did Tate struggle the last few years? Health? Quality of offensive lines? I wouldn't rule him out or anyone that could help us.

It's just unfortunate that Ben Tate could help us.
Now we see what inspired Jerry to say our running game will be better this year.
We are not the Patriots but Romo better get ready to be Tom Brady this season.

I was on board with mcFadden and Randle being the guys. I bought into what the front office was selling.

But the fact we keep getting linked to wash ups like Tate and others is making me waver in my beliefs. If the front office is so sold on our running situation, why are they investigating more bums?

Tate's 2014 season was draped in red flags as he was outplayed by Isaiah Crowell/Terrance West in Cleveland, complained about his role and was released. He then bounced to Minnesota and Pittsburgh, continuing to show zero burst. So it's highly unlikely he'd provide Dallas an upgrade on their current underwhelming stable of Joseph Randle, Darren McFadden, Ryan Williams and Lance Dunbar. Still, the Cowboys' desire to at least kick the tires on Tate suggests they're not done tinkering at the running back position.

I like the bold...

It sure goes directly against any claims that what we currently have is "good enough" or that the running game is "better".

If this workout rumor is true, it flies directly in the face of those claims.

Running back Ben Tate is working out for the Dallas Cowboys on Thursday, per ESPN's Josina Anderson.
This doesn't come as much surprise since the Cowboys have indicated several times this offseason that they would be open to adding another running back. Some thought that bringing in another back could come during the season since the Cowboys signed Darren McFadden in March and have Joseph Randle returning. Still, there's a lot to make up for with the NFL's leading rusher gone to the Eagles.

He was better than Brady last year and it wasn't close. The only thing the Patriots had better than us last year was their defense, and it was only marginally better. We've made a lot better investments in our defense than they did this offseason.
