Disgruntled Adrian Peterson

It's easy to feel clever by saying it isn't smart to make that trade today. However if it is smart or not is not something that can be determined at this point. Is it a gamble? Sure. But so is not doing it.

Let's say they go into the season as we are today and our committee of underachievers fail to make any impact on the game. Romo is forced to be predictable and throw throw throw and he ends up getting hurt or doesn't get hurt but our offense is average again.

Let's say we trade for him and he explodes into carrying us to the next 2 Super Bowls.

Let's say we don't trade for him and we end up drafting the next Mo Claiborne next year.

I am on the fence. However I can see that there is a very real risk reward scenario that just is impossible to know at this point. Too many variables involved.
I will say this....I believe 100% that our chances of success greatly improves over the next 2 years if we were to make this trade. A rookie 2 years from now won't have the same level of impact Peterson will in 2 years.

You can stay on the fence. For me if I have a choice of AP who could be that ONE piece that could carry us to 2 Super Bowls or getting another Mo Claiborne Id be over that fence in a flash and hand carrying that 1st round pick to Minny. But thats just me, wanting another Super Bowl or two rather than gambling on an unknown 1st rd pick that might be another Bobby Carpenter or Mo Claiorne.

some of us think a no.1 is way too much, so looking at the vikings board and seeing what they want is hilarious, the most recent being 2016 1st,2nd,3rd round picks, oh and byron jones:lmao:

I cant imagine even one Cowboys fan willing to give all that up. But certainly quite a few would be willing to part with the 32nd pick in the draft for a legit shot at winning it all. Giving up what is essentially a high 2nd round pick certainly wouldnt be too high a price to pay for another Lombardi . . .

Why is this thread in the "NFL zone"?
Aren't all threads related to cowboy players supposed to be in the "Fan zone" ?

Of course everyone would do it if one or two super bowls were guaranteed but they're not.

Trading for Peterson doesn't guarantee anything except not having a pick in the first round in 2016

I'd like to have him at a team friendly deal to see how things would turn out but I don't want to give up the pick to acquire him and I don't believe any other team is willing to pay that much either so the Cowboys would be competing against themselves and unnecessarily overpaying were they to send Minny their 1st round pick.

I want them to stick to their guns and see what options come to them, its been working out real well for them since they've taken this approach and I don't want to see them revert to the panic over paying of the past.

I mean, you are missing the part where we are guaranteed to have Adrian Peterson. That's kinda important to this argument.

lol, I assumed you guys could figure that part out (perhaps mistakenly)

Haha I'm just saying, there's this thought that if we trade a 1st rounder for AD, it's basically a waste of a 1st rounder. Getting AD isn't throwing away a 1st rounder for nothing.

I'd like to take the last 10 years and take the guys taken from the 28-32 spots and see what those 50 guys have done in the league and see if the median player in that group is better or worse than what AD could do for us over the next 3 years.

Here are the conditions in which I would welcome Peterson in the Cowboy fold...

1. The Vikings release him... No trade... no giving the Vikings any draft picks. No giving the Vikings any players.
2. He passes through waivers unclaimed. I think the odds of this happening being pretty good. I don't think anyone would claim him and assume his 2015 contract parameters.

The Cowboys could then negotiate with him for a contract that was much lower than what he was going to get from the Vikings.

Those are my conditions. :)

That will happen... right after Jessica Alba accepts my marriage proposal.
