There's also history of the truly special running backs being exceptions to that 'rule'. I see Peterson as certainly exceptional. If you choose not to, that's certainly your prerogative.

That isn't true. Even the truly exceptional running backs who put up massive seasons in their younger years didn't put up 2000 yard seasons( or even 1700 yds) in a season past the age of 30. I truly doubt Peterson will buck that trend. Can he help Dallas with a 1200 yard to 1300 yard season? I think he can, but that isn't the same as him going out and breaking records or producing what Murray did last season. If Dallas is trading a 1st rounder and paying him his scheduled $12 million then he better be producing larger numbers than 1200 yards.

You can search the running backs and see which ones were over 30 and produced over 1500 to 1600 yards in a season. It is a short list. It gets shorter when the season totals are 1700 yards or 1800 yards. Tiki Barber did it, but he had nowhere near the wear-and-tear that Peterson has on his body. Tiki was hardly used when he was younger. I don't think he had a 1000 rushing attempts by the time he hit age 30.

No. If 1,800 is your measuring stick, Peterson likely won't hit that. But he'll come closer than anyone else we have or can get will.

That IS true.

I was using his 2012 season as the measuring stick, which is more than 1800 yards. I think he will be a lot closer to 2013 than 2012.

If he's running behind this line, I think there's plenty of reason for optimism. That 2012 season showed what he's capable of, and that came with a lousy team around him. Who knows what he might accomplish with a great team around him?

Whatever it might be, I feel it would be enough offense to win a championship.
