I hate to indulge any of the Peterson talk, but isn't his act wearing thin on anyone who actually still wants him?

He is acting like a petulant child. He has no leverage. None. And if this is true, he is now he is pulling the Favre-ish retirement card?

If it is not about money, he wants what, "love" from the front office who he feels turned their back on him when in essence he was the one who put himself in that position to begin with?

I really hope this is just his insane agent talking. And even if so, he could always fire him. I know I would. He is not casting himself in a good light right now, no matter who he ends up playing with.

Retiring gives the Vikings all their money back for the year.

Rather than retire, what you want to do is stay active, but hold out until week 11 (12).

I call this the Logan Mankins.

This forces the Vikings to carry a roster spot for him and carry his salary.

He could also start the first 6 games of the season and then have a midseason holdout. By doing this you still earn a percentage of your money without really fully helping the team. You also accrue a season.

Both of these strategies have validity, and you'd have to perhaps look at the schedule to see what would make more sense.

I think he's 30 and wants to be a cowboy before age forces him out, it was probably his dream. Not the most believable hill for a guy to stand on to force a trade when push comes to shove and they start messing with his money
