Dallas Cowboys News And Notes: The Unblockable Anthony Hitchens!

I know the size of the FA deal holds importance to you. Heck - it is the only evidence that your pet cat Parnell was all you claimed.

However, suggesting we wrung hands over Carter's deal is a stretch. Coaches hate inconsistent guys who should play much better.

Did you criticize the Hitchens pick or not?

Correct me if I'm wrong, but they aren't even in pads during OTA's, which means that contact is minimal at best, of course he can't be blocked, there's no contact.

Fitzgerald 1970
Hughes 1975
Rafferty 1976
Deossie 1984
Tolbert 1989
Stone 1993
Barber
Free

Fitzgerald, Rafferty, Deossie, Tolbert, Stone, Barber and Free are/were better players although Stone didn't do it here.

He is only in his second year. Unless you are comparing everyone's rookie years I don't see the relevance.
We will have to wait a little while before he goes on any list.

I didn't put him on a list. But those are the 4th round picks in our history that shine and they belong on the list. Maybe he will, too. BTW, I'm a big fan and have been for awhile now.

Did not. Like the player but suggesting he's a better pick than Canty based on starts is oversimplification that totally ignores context

Even if he's just a good starting LB who can play all 3 LB spots, that's a good pick in the 4th round.
Even if he's an LB who can back up all 3 LB spots on a good team but is stretched as a starter, that's a very good pick in the 4th round. I'm not sure he'll end up being more than that, but I am sure he'll be at least that.

It may ignore context but it does not ignore truth, Hitchens had a very productive rookie season for a 4th rounder.

The issue is him playing the SAM. He doesn't have ideal size and speed for that position, he's a better fit for the middle or WILL.

Truth is meaningless without context

I know you didn't put him on the list, but you said they are better players. I agree that in their careers they were better than Hitchens as a rookie, but who knows where he may end up on a list like this in 5 years.

Yes, my OP was intended to compare rookies to Hitchens rookie year.

Doug Free did nothing his first 2 years. IIRC he was not even active for games. Canty started 2 games. I would have to research the others.

Some of those did produce early on but you're right in some didn't. We don't know where he's going but it appears a bit promising.

It's not like Hitchens was starting over a scrub.

Were you one of the ones that complained about the Cowboys drafting Hitchens too early?

To be fair I think 95% of us would have fallen into that category on draft day 2014. :)

I didn't like the pick. I knew that was the round we were going to go LB, but I wanted a different LB. Doesn't matter, though. Hitchens proves the argument that a pick doesn't have to be somebody a couch scout identified ahead of the draft to end up being a player fans can root for who can really help the team. Really glad to have such a smart, hard working, versatile palyer on board.

Ignorant. Facts mean nothing without context.

Anyone with even rudimentary critical thinking skills would get that

Yeah well in this case he was comparing two football players drafted in the 4th round, that's enough context for anyone to understand.
Anyone with "Rudimentary Knowledge" of football gets it, except trouble makers. You can act smart with your fancy words, I see through you, you're full of HS. How's the Prius Hybrid?
