Who cares what a bunch of arm chair people think of Hitchens. The kid stepped in as a rookie and played, played hard, and did pretty well.

Will he be great? Who knows. Is there potential there for him to be real good? Yeah I believe so.

It's interesting that the Cowboys since the 90s have far more to show for their seventh-round picks than their fourth-rounders (Jay Ratliff, Patrick Crayton, Brock Marion, Leon Lett)
I wonder if that's why we trade away our 6th next year for a 7th this year???

Hitchens performed OK. But there is film study on his rookie season that points to his high tackle numbers as a result of getting beat in coverage a lot. He still has a lot of work to do. But there's potential to be really good, not sure about great.

The kid di play all three LB postiions I will give him a break that is one hell of a learning curve.

Would Hitch have had those starts without the injuries to Durant, Lee, and Ro?

Seems weak evidence. Had Spears or Ellis got hurt obviously Canty would have started more.

Bruce Carter was healthy but did not start weeks 12 though 16 while Hitchens did start those games.

Even if he's just a good starting LB who can play all 3 LB spots, that's a good pick in the 4th round. Based on his solid performance as a rookie last season, I think he's off to a good start to his career.

If Wilson turns out as well as Hitchens in his first year, maybe we should trade all our 1st-3rd round picks for a bunch of 4ths.:)

In all but one of those games,we started in the nickel. If we started in the base D in each game, your comment might hold a bit more water.

But again, tell me how Hitch's starts were not primarily a function of losing Lee, Durant, and for a couple of games, Ro.

I like Hitch but getting all excited because he may or may not have overtaken Bruce Carter - a player we had been looking to replace for the past two years - doesn't suggest some form of awesomeness.

Many people here were upset that Carter was not retained. Carter got a contract that averages about 5M which is a significant number for a 4-3 LB. It's not like Hitchens was starting over a scrub.

Were you one of the ones that complained about the Cowboys drafting Hitchens too early?

is it possible they have had more 7th round picks and able to hit on them more?

Hichtens is the best 4th round pick, since the best 4th round pick deemed at a later date and after the one before him. But Hitchens is the best, not in pads, on a friday, on a hot day, standing on the sidelines.

Ro wouldn't have been traded for if it were not for Lee's injury. Hitch would have battled Carter and Wilber for playing time no matter what and he outplayed them.

Irrelevant to the discussion. Thanks again for misguided comments!

I don't think it is. You don't get to define all that is important to discuss regarding a player. As for your next comment devolving into pot shots, I advise some introspection.

Doubtful. Ro wanted to play for a coach approved by Saban. Garrett and Saban are tight and the deal was basically a free look unless he made the team.

Don't portray it as some sort of desperation piece

I know the size of the FA deal holds importance to you. Heck - it is the only evidence that your pet cat Parnell was all you claimed.

However, suggesting we wrung hands over Carter's deal is a stretch. Coaches hate inconsistent guys who should play much better.

Bruce Carter? his legend was almost as good as Dunbars. Omg, Carter was the bestest thing next to the most amazing thing we never saw thats how good he was. I know i was told here how awesome Carter was going to be. We never blow up any players status.
