Irrelevant to the discussion. Thanks again for misguided comments!
I thought the discussion was 4th round picks....was Hitch not a 4th round pick?

I wonder if that's why we trade away our 6th next year for a 7th this year???It's interesting that the Cowboys since the 90s have far more to show for their seventh-round picks than their fourth-rounders (Jay Ratliff, Patrick Crayton, Brock Marion, Leon Lett)
Hitchens performed OK. But there is film study on his rookie season that points to his high tackle numbers as a result of getting beat in coverage a lot. He still has a lot of work to do. But there's potential to be really good, not sure about great.
Would Hitch have had those starts without the injuries to Durant, Lee, and Ro?
Seems weak evidence. Had Spears or Ellis got hurt obviously Canty would have started more.
Who cares what a bunch of arm chair people think of Hitchens. The kid stepped in as a rookie and played, played hard, and did pretty well.
Will he be great? Who knows. Is there potential there for him to be real good? Yeah I believe so.
That is interesting.
Bruce Carter was healthy but did not start weeks 12 though 16 while Hitchens did start those games.
In all but one of those games,we started in the nickel. If we started in the base D in each game, your comment might hold a bit more water.
But again, tell me how Hitch's starts were not primarily a function of losing Lee, Durant, and for a couple of games, Ro.
I like Hitch but getting all excited because he may or may not have overtaken Bruce Carter - a player we had been looking to replace for the past two years - doesn't suggest some form of awesomeness.
Hitchens is the best Cowboys 4th round pick I can remember.
Hitchens had 11 starts as a rookie. Chris Canty had 2.

Ro wouldn't have been traded for if it were not for Lee's injury. Hitch would have battled Carter and Wilber for playing time no matter what and he outplayed them.
Many people here were upset that Carter was not retained. Carter got a contract that averages about 5M which is a significant number for a 4-3 LB. It's not like Hitchens was starting over a scrub.
Were you one of the ones that complained about the Cowboys drafting Hitchens too early?
is it possible they have had more 7th round picks and able to hit on them more?
