2015 Women's World Cup soccer thread

1. Two heavyweights meet again
Sunday's final will mark the third major tournament in a row in which the United States and Japan have met in the final. In the 2011 Women's World Cup final, the Nadeshiko twice rallied from a goal down to prevail 3-1 in a penalty shootout. A year later, the two sides contested the 2012 Olympic final with the Americans claiming gold with a 2-1 victory thanks to two Carli Lloyd goals.
n both cases, it could be argued that the better team on the day lost. In 2011, the United States had the upper hand for most of the match only to be undone by some defensive frailties. In the Olympic final, the reverse was true. The U.S. women won, but Japan played the better brand of soccer, proving again that in the world's biggest games, you don't always get what you deserve.

17 hours away till kickoff of the final. remember, this final is more important than "shark week"

btw, congrats to England(3rd place), not what they wanted, may not change the past, but its better than nothing.

Big Screen Battle tonight: Soccer vs. Daletona

I'll probably relent some because the race lasts longer.

lol, I was sitting in a Mexican restaurant watching this as it came on. Wow did the US team come out to a BLAZING fast start! Woot! Go US Women's team!

USA just totally dominated. That 54 yard goal by Loyd will go down as the best goal in World Cup history. Way to go USA gals!!!

Carli Lloyd is a ******* stud! The presence of mind to see the keeper off her line and then having the ability to make the shot from midfield had me laughing my *** off. Lloyd is the MVP of the WWC hands done, 24/7 hustle on top of great talent.

Blast from the past but I gotta pass this along in case anyone else was like me and never seen this before.

This tying goal by Japan in the 2011 World Cup is incredible imo, go to 4:25. The Japanese gal is facing the corner kick with her back to the goal and manages to flick it on goal between multiple defenders, amazing shot.

dang it, FIFA blocked it from being embedded so you have to view on YouTube

US was the best team all tourney.
Bigger, stronger, faster.

They deserved the gold.

By far the best in the world juts like the German men were.

USA came out and made every chance they had early on.
Score could have been 7 - 2.
Better game was USA vs Germany.

yea best two teams in the world.
both so big and athletic with great goaltending.
england women getting the 3rd place game was only real surprise of WWC for me but one team was distraught to be int he game and the other was ecstatic about their overall showing.

I wonder how the Aussie women are feeling now. They were not very impressed with the US after their game in the group stage.

The Australian women must have been, if it was honestly, thinking...
Dam they kicked every other teams butt.
If we played better than that first game like the USA did we would have advanced a long way into the tournament.

I'm in europe and didn't see the final. Did Wambach explain how her team scored five on fake grass?

No surprise your team won. Good on you.

She said they scored despite the fake grass. Canada shouldn't have put the World Cup on artificial turf. Embarrassing for them.
