Again, he could blow out his knee week 1 and ruin his career. If that happens, you really think Dallas is going to franchise him again for that amount? Nope.

There is a huge difference in making 28mill over 2 years and playing under 2 one year deals versus signing a long term deal and the guaranteed money be double that or around that ballpark.

Name me another top flight star at their position that is being franchised? Dez sees that and feels slighted.

wah wah wah. Like I said the insurance is there to be had if he wants it.

Clearly I have. You really think the salary cap is holding them back? No. Don't hide behind that. Was the salary cap in question when they gave Romo that insane deal he got? Or Tyron Smith? Yes. And they managed. They have enough space to sign Dez to a long term deal if they want to. No idea why the salary cap is even being questioned here as a reason they aren't.

maybe they really are worried about his stability. Ever think of that?

Doesn't matter what he is paid is going to be broke 5 years after playing. How's he going to take care of his family then? He's a friggin idiot.

You completely skipped the part about tax free insurance

And Demaryous Thomas has been every bit the WR Dez has been

Justin Houston is one of the top pass rushers and he was tagged

I'm not thrilled with this turn of events, but this isn't the monday night after week 1, this is July. Its absurdly premature to be crying. At least wait until the deadline to lose it.

If you ignore the fact that you want the Cowboys to be as good as possible, I don't understand how you could see what Bryant is doing as anything but smart. The best argument people can come up with as to why what he is doing is wrong is a sarcastic comment about this being the game he loves.

Can a team agree to a 1-year deal slightly higher than the tag?

Say you offer Dez $13M fully guaranteed this year. Then you don't lose the ability to negotiate a long term deal.

There is only so much money to go around
Bottom line is every signing has an effect on another
We will never have 5 all pro oline
But smith, Fred, and Martin are must keeps. They are as good if not better at their respective positions than anyone except maybe our QB
Football is all about the trenches
You don't have to have trish at other positions but it's hard to have a QB in a second deal, the highest paid WR and a quality oline
If it comes down to making dez the highest paid WR or keeping those three on the oline, I take the oline
Everyone wants to keep dez but not if it involves paying him CJ money

I'll take Dez and take our chances of drafting an Offensive Lineman that won't be a huge drop off. Have we not shown that we can draft offensive lineman over the last few years. I like our chances of drafting replacement offensive lineman than drafting a replacement for Dez.

So we couldn't keep Murray and the offensive line. Now we can't keep Dez and the offensive line....hmm..so I guess we can only have rookie RB's and Rookie (or second tier) WR's due to the offensive line......
Nah...I'm not buying it. If we have money to franchise Dez and pay him 12.5 million per year for the next 2 years then obviously the salary cap isn't an issue and it's not about Dez OR the offensive line.

I don't see why not (assuming it is done within the next 2 days) but considering how unhappy he is with the franchise tag, I doubt he will sign a deal which is just the franchise tag in contract form instead of franchise form.

I suppose he might consider it if that contract included a clause where the Cowboys agreed not to franchise him next year.....

EDIT: After the next 2 days, they can still sign Dez to a 1-year deal for any amount; they are not obligated to the salary cap number. But they won't be able to do a long term deal at that point.

Let him sit out the year then. As much as it worries me about not having Murray or Dez this year, it's not worth crippling the team moving forward with contracts to retain O-line, Crawford, Hardy, and quality depth.

Crawford? Crawford? Is this where we are as fans now....actually saying we shouldn't keep a top 10-15 player because we don't want to cripple our ability to keep Crawford? Hahaha!!!!

Good idea but I don't think you can re-do a contract for a league year after signing.

They can sign Dez to a better one year deal after Weds' deadline. Something like 1yr/15m, though there is no real incentive.

Exactly. He could blow out his knee week 1 and ruin his career. So that's one of the reasons Dallas would be unwise to break the bank on his contract when he has nowhere else he can go.

If Dez wasnt a talented football player he would be towel drying cars at the the local car wash. He can barely speak coherently and he's about to make 13 million for doing what he supposedly loves to do.

I have no protection in my career, neither do most of you so thats a lame excuse. Play football Dez, it's all your good for.

What an awful rude thing to say about another person. How do you know Dez? Is this how you view people who are different than you are? How he speaks does not determine what he is good for in life. I hope you are not really this way in life.

You wouldn't have to redo this year. Just sign an extension of however many years.

I thought the deadline was for negotiating a longterm deal. Can they still work out a longterm deal after the deadline?

That would buy more time, but I'm betting there's a rule to prevent it.

Pretty certain they cannot sign a multi year deal after July 15th no matter what, even if DAL withdraws the tag another team can only sign a one year deal.

They can talk all they want, but can't sign a new deal until after the season ends.

Well I'm not saying pick between the 2 lol.

But backing ourselves in a corner with 2 players on offense taking up half the cap isn't a wise idea. I'd prefer to invest in a pro-bowl potential DT (Crawford) and a pro-bowl DE (hardy), than a player prone to temper-tantrums and questionable behavior off the field.
