D Thomas just signed almost the same deal (5 year/ 70 mil) except 1.5 mil less guaranteed.

The Eugene Parker deal was for nine years and $30 million guaranteed.

The Cowboys blinked.

I think that collusion case scared the crap out of them. Guilty or not, they didn't want to take the stand on that.

Not outrageous, but perfect for Dez. A huge signing bonus, $45 million fully guaranteed, and a short term right before the cap skyrockets. He'll only be 31, so there's another deal out there for him.

I like that is it 5 years instead of longer. There is no way to know what his game will be like 5 years from now. Dallas is paying him for his prime years, I would hate to be paying out big money to a guy who is no longer performing at an elite level

Longer deals benefit teams. The TV money and cap is about to escalate.

14 mil per year
45 guaranteed

I was close. Lol

I like 5 better than 7 years anyway... But it really doesn't matter

My predictions were:

1. Dez would sign before the deadline. Check.
2. He would make about $14 million a year. Check.

Oh, ye of little faith. :)

These deadlines always amuse me. This is not like procrastinating for your mid term assignment in undergrad. Why the last hour? So what was going on the last two months? How many numbers can be crunched? What happened in the last hour besides the obvious deadline that made both parties feel great? Lol

Waiting for the other side to flinch maybe?

does the fact that both Dez and Thomas signed nearly the exact same contract prove the NFLPA's point that there was collusion? Or, does that mean the Agents through out the same offer for what they are willing to sign to the Cowboys/Broncos?

two years? Naw, it looks like he gets the other half at the beginning of the league year in 2016. That's not a full year away.

Over 2 league years. That is a huge distinction. He has to play a full season and that was the holdup.

Longer term deals is how you end up with a player on the downhill side making more money than they are worth. I don't care about TV money or how much the cap may rise what matter is getting what you are paying for. We are paying elite money for an elite player that very well may not be the case when he turns 31 in a sport where longevity rarely exsist

When Dez is 31, they will be better able to gauge his worth at that point.

I think when a WR is about to turn 32 is the perfect time to have his contract run out. Much older and you run the risk of considerable dead money if his skills have eroded... much younger and you probably missed some of his prime.

32 seems perfect.

anyone got any idea how Dez's contract affects the cap this year or next.....will it impact signing Crawford or Hardy next year?

But he's there for the pomp and circumstance at the press conference.

Looks like Dez will have to wait until he gets back.

lol, I can't argue with you about that. Jerry middle name should be pomp & circumstance.
