“Soda is a health food!” said no one, ever (well, in the past 20 years, at least). So it hardly comes as a surprise that drinking soda can have a negative impact on your body.

But while most of us know soda isn’t good for us, we also don’t know exactly what happens to our bodies once we drink it. A detailed new infographic fromTheRenegadePharmacist.com breaks it down, step by step — and it’s not pretty

Here’s what happens after you drink a Coke:

In the first 10 minutes: Ten teaspoons of sugar (100 percent of your recommended daily intake) hits your system.

In 20 minutes: Your blood sugar spikes and causes a burst of insulin. Your liver responds by turning the sugar it comes into contact with into fat.

In 40 minutes: Your body has absorbed the soda’s caffeine. Your pupils may dilate, your blood pressure rises, and your liver “dumps more sugar into your bloodstream.” The adenosine receptors in your brain are blocked to prevent you from feeling drowsy.

You won't believe the rest of the story. Holy moly!

Scary, huh. I guess this can be said for lot of things we put in our bodies. Pretty scary reading the effects of fast food, too.

By the way, Coke also cleans the acid corrosion off of your car battery pretty nicely. Have done it before. It really works.:)

Pop, even the of the diet variety are very bad for you. High fructose corn syrup which is in most pop brands today has been proven to be worse for you then real sugar. I think its comical and sad actually to see obese people gorging themselves with a 1500 calorie meal then ordering a diet coke as if that will make any difference whatsoever.

It's more sad than funny.

HFCS is in almost everything we eat.

After I ended my teen years... I pretty much gave up "pop" or "soda" or whatever name you call it in your local. Don't get me wrong I would enjoy the taste of many of the varieties, but the stuff is so damn bad for you.

I'll have a can of coke occasionally, but I just primarily drink water and unsweetened iced tea. If I drank an equivalent amount of soda every day I'd probably be 20 lbs heavier.

I wanna read What One Female Does To Your Bank Account In One Year.

??? What on earth does some money grubbing beyotch have to do Coke??? Or are you thinking the thread meant "coke"?? Well, if that's the case then, lol, yeah, I'm pretty sure you would have a good leg to stand on there. Providing that you were not the one to introduce that girl to coke, that is. ;)

Food for thought. Exaggerated for effect. Like anything else just don't over do it and you will be just fine. I probably average one a day, I enjoy caffeine and the taste. Life is too short not to. Haha. But I also work out everyday. Just stop sitting on your *** is the best thing for anybody.

I always find it funny the people who eat a ton of fruit (not that fruit is bad for you) but criticize coke drinkers. Sugar is sugar and your body still has to break it down no matter the form.

I practically lived off of Dr Pepper for a long time. Drank it all day long. About a year ago I cut way back. I still have one during the day and at night. I've lost over 60 lbs. Didn't exercise or change my eating habits, just cut waaay down on soda.

Too much sugar is bad, even in fruit form. But I will take a food item that isn't synthetic, and contains nutrients.. all day, over one that is processed. That being said, everything in moderation. Also remember all fruit is not created equal... "An Apple A Day"......
