If you mean he wasn't solid before he got here, that is arguable
If you mean he wasn't solid while he was here, that is not
He was great in Dallas, no doubt. For a guy who was at the bottom of the depth chart when he signed he had an outstanding year and the type of production he put up in that one year would be well beyond "serviceable vet" status if it were replicated for a number of years.
What he did in Dallas isn't really too relevant to the idea of finding a "serviceable vet" RB because prior to being in Dallas Laurent was not a serviceable vet. He was a 4th year player who had a little over 2 years worth of games played and never really stood out. He was likely working on borrowed time and had he not landed in Dallas he probably wouldn't have done anything worth mentioning. Laurent was the rare player who just fits. Outside of Witten, Robinson probably had the best chemistry with Tony out of all the other offensive players for that one season.
Find a RB who is a nobody and turn him into somebody. That's a better comparison to Robinson.
