NFL QBs typically have a 2 year decline in ability at the end of their careers. Its amazing how often this occurs. The clever ones recognise when they are in 'year 1' and dont come back for 'year 2'.

Symptoms of being in this phase of career include;

- not being able to practice every day.
- regular injuries.
- putting on weight, looking softer.
- not as consistent.
- showing some signs of deminished abilities.

Personally, I think Romo is in year 1 of this decline. Still able to play well, but showing signs. Next year he won't be as good and if he's still here in 2017, it will be bad for all parties.

We need to draft a QB in the first round in 2016. Otherwise we're in serious trouble. We've a good young roster capable of going all the way. Would be a shame to waste it on not preparing for the inevitable.

I think Tony would have been the MVP if he hadn't gotten hurt

Comeback player now haha serious though what happens if we tank then Romo comes back plays lights out and leads us to a playoff spot. ....would that be enough to win MVP?

If not I would rather settle for superbowl MVP

QB's can break a bone even if they are 22. As far as diminishing abilities? What?
The man was playing at a level most QB will never see.
Were you saying this after he surgically carved up the Giants on the last 2 drives of the game?

Now if he was getting hurt throwing like Brees or moving around and his hamstrings kept tearing then I could see your point. He broke a bone getting driven into the ground.

Wrong...Tony is not in decline.
But true we need to draft a QB, that has been a given, so we thought for the past few years.
However we really do need to draft one now. And not from this recent injury. It is just time. He can sit and learn from one of the best for a few years.

Here is what we know. Basically zero QBs with the one notable exception of Favre for one year when (he was 40)make it to 40 without a pretty drop in capabilities.

The drop typically starts around age 35. If you look at Brees who is now 36 you could see it a very tangible way last year when he was 35.

Manning, at age 39, looks like he is at the end and this could be his last year.

With Romo we don't know. He skills, when healthy, seem fine. He is 35 years old however so that drop could begin at any time.

The team needs to start preparing.

people keep using the age number to predict decline.

decline usually happens from X years in the league. People are forgetting he bench rode for a little bit and doesnt have the extra playing years on his body

forget natural decline... concern is if he can hold up.... I get how much everyone adores tony, but I adore the Dallas Cowboys..... Its time to start making plans.... it's been time actually..... and all the folks thinking "Because of our cap...blah, blah, blah..." Or, "Well drafting a Qb at this stage, blah, blah, blah"...... save it... if we would have had someone on deck this year, we wouldn't be in the situation we are in.....

That being said... I wish weeden the best, because I wish the COWBOYS the best.

He has been getting a pain-killing injection in his back before every game the last two seasons which can't be a good thing.

I don't know that the fact he road the bench from 2003-2005 means much at this point.

Age is cruel. It just doesn't give a crap about who our favorite players are or what team they play for. Tony can compensate to some extent with his maturity and savvy but he's not got much time left.

And with Romo the issue is not just his age but also a chronic bad back.

In the blink of an eye his career could easily be over any day now.

If you were take everyone who passed opinion off as fact and kill them the world would be such a more tolerable place.

I believe it is more of a 3 to 4 year process, with the first year or two being the denial years where everyone including the player are in true denial that things are starting to go south. Has Romo entered phase one yet? I don't think so, but he is on the cusp.

I wonder how many folks who think Romo can play into his late 30's thought that a 29 year old RB was washed up after a 400 carry season? I understand that the positions are different but Romo has had multiple injuries and back surgeries and he's 35. He's closer to the end than most people think and we need to think about finding his potential replacement.

Right now he is in the 2 game phase of the season, let's hope for a speedy and complete recovery.
