They said he could start practicing next week, so does that mean he couldve been back for the eagles game?
If so, why put him on ir? IF he couldve came back, then this could be a big mistake by our staff, that may cost us a playoff spot.... nobody they added on our roster was worth putting him on Ir.

Maybe the Tampa game if he were on the active roster. Definitely not Philly. They made the right call putting him on the 8 week IR list.

If is able to practice next week, then why not the eagles game?

From what I've heard he hasn't even been throwing a football. No way he would've played next week.

You want him back, as healthy as he can possibly be. You don't want him rushed back, simply for selfish reasons, where a much worse injury could happen. Be happy it's not the entire season.

Team used the IR to return to make sure he was healed and wasn't rushed back in.
Without surgery some can return as early as 6 weeks, but chances to injure it again, more likely, but not always an issue. 7 weeks is better of course, but 8 weeks is assured injury not likely, as if it is, it's most likely an entire new injury.

So to be 100%, they used the IR, as not to be tempted to put him in sooner.

Meh.

There's plenty of things to second guess about this team right now. I don't think this is one of them.

They made a mistake to add a roster spot. Romo will practice and throw this week. He could play against the Eagles most likely if they didn't force the 8 weeks on him. I mean it's his left side here fellas. I think they realize they blew it, but it doesn't matter anymore.

This staff make a mistake???? You gotta be kidding me.....Never

I'm sure the decision was made with recommendations from the medical team.

There isn't a lot of correlation between being able to practice and the possibility of re-injury of the bone is not fully healed.

So your saying his shoulder is ready to take a hit?

The staff knows exactly what they were doing, and probably so, that it forced him to sit 8 weeks. As if they didn't and he was able throw, he would go back in at 6 weeks.

So they did it to protect Romo, as much as protecting themselves also. Maybe they didn't trust having any discipline to say no to Tony and / or themselves, if medically cleared to play.

Really it comes down to when it's healed. Rodgers was in his opinion ready to play 3 weeks before he actually did. If you remember before every game there would be a big discussion if he was going to play, including our game with them. But they did not let him play until scans showed the break completely healed. With this injury you are going to feel 100% long before the bone is healed.
I can see why they did it, to protect Romo from himself almost because he's so competitive. But I also agree that if it costs them even one game of Romo, it was a mistake.

This page has a lot of Rodgers-related tweets from 2013 about the dilemma the Packers faced.

No. Broken mine 2x(playing FB). Took over 2 years to feel right the 1st time and 14 months the 2nd time. While the bone may heal, it is still painful to do some things (like pushups).
