At the moment Dallas would pick 4th

The good thing about being behind 2 of those 3 teams is, two of them dont need a QB (SD & Tenn). We could be in a good position to draft Lynch or Goff.

Except either one of those teams will likely be entertaining trades. Philly for instance would likely give up a kings ransom to get someone like Lynch who is athletic and can pass to run his scheme.

No doubt. A top five pick doesn't guarantee anything. You play to win the games period. Anything less than an all out effort to win each week is unprofessional and shameful IMO.

I agree that a top five pick doesn't guarantee anything especially with QBs, but you'd be setting up for a higher success rate. You are also offered more advantage in trades picking from the top of each round. Moral victories at this point does very little and could ultimately hurt us in the long run.

Dallas will end up winning a couple of more games with Cassel QBing. They have nothing to lose (too bad that didn't sink in earlier) and they will open up the playbook.
Oh well.

Anyway, if the right QB is there, they could take one. Just please don't force the issue and take one you don't actually like at that draft spot.
But yes, this easily could be the year to get someone for the future.

That stinks. Lynch will probably go 1 but I don't think the remaining QBs are worth #4. We need some of the other loser teams to win more

I dont think Lynch will go 1. Think Tunsil or Bosa

Oh man, people who are comfortable picking Goff with a top 5 pick, you guys are insane. The guy flat out sucks. Has anyone even watched him? I'm actually surprised so many here are down for that. I can't comment on Lynch because I literally haven't seen him play a snap, but this is a atrocious year for a qb needy team. Connor Cook imo is the best of the bunch, and even he looks like a game manager at the next level, give him a top 5 defense and top running game you'll be fine. Would rather go Jalen Ramsey or Joey Bosa first then Carson Wentz second.

This is what I'll be doing the rest of the season. Rooting for the Cowboys to lose (Go Cowboys! though) and the teams around them in the draft order to win.

Let's look back at this mess in a few years and say, hey...that got us our QB. It was all worth it.

Gotta admit, as much as I'd ordinarily say just the opposite, that idea appeals to me as well. This is anything but an ordinary situation with the team desperately needing a top pick to ensure our chances of acquiring the QB of the future. Paxton Lynch is the only QB prospect that I'd really relish the idea of acquiring with our top pick. I'm not one to advocate tanking the remainder of the season but I wouldn't be disappointed in the least if we lost the remainder of our games if it meant being in position to get a QB candidate of his caliber.

Turn some heads?

What? As we all look away?

He's a life-long Romo hater, so it adds up.
"Dreamed" that we would somehow land Manziel to replace that loser Romo.
Probably anyone, in his eyes, is an upgrade.

I do think Dallas will win a couple with Cassel though.

Every year there a a couple of flavors-of-the-draft that get talked about as if they're the second coming of Elway. Never fails. Sanchez, Leinart, Russell, Vince Young, Brady Quinn (yes, in November he was a can't miss player going top 2 in the draft) etc, etc.

With our luck, Cassel will go 5-0 the rest of the way, miss the playoffs and Dallas will drop to like 14-16 in the draft lol

Every year people say the QB crop this year sucks and next year will be better until next year comes around and when all of those qb's are under the microscope they start to show their warts. If you're waiting for the next Andrew Luck you're going to want to take a seat because he was the exception not the rule.

They'll probably win a couple.
As we know, they lost 6 of those 7 games by very slim margins. Just one ply either way and they win a few.

This class is particularly bad. For example if this were next year, we could have had a shot at Brad Kaaya. Pro style offense, surrounded by **** in Miami and holding his own. THAT is what a franchise QB looks like. No one this year excites me.

I just pulled up a draft board that had the earliest QB (Goff) ranked the 22nd best prospect. Lynch did not make the top 25.

I thin pulled up Walter Football and they have both those QB in the 1st-2nd round transition range.

But some of you will like this:

Drafttek's latest mock has the 1st QB going at #7 to Dallas.

  1. Hargrave
  2. Bosa
  3. Tunisl
  4. Stanely
  5. J Smith
  6. Alexander
  7. Goff
  8. Nkemdiche
  9. L Floyd
  10. Elliot

If we end up with the #1 overall pick the BPA is not going to be a QB. Give me Bosa so the circus known as Hardy can leave.

at this point, as long as they beat the Washington Football Team, I'd be happy

Why is everyone so sure the Cowboys are going to take a QB with the first pick? I doubt they do it.

If not now then when should we? Romo hasnt finished a season without missing time the past 3 years. He'll also be 36 by the time next season starts. If this Front office was smart, they would draft a QB in the first, and let him learn behind Romo. And if/when Romo goes down a few games, he cant get some much needed experience.

Then again, I dont think this Front Office is smart, so maybe youre right....

Exactly. We'll probably go into next season exactly the same except Cassel will be the backup. The FO will put all our failure this year to injuries and hope it doesn't happen again.

Jerry has said in the past he doesn't like taking QBs in the 1st because the bust rate is so high. That's why he gambled on Quincy and the rest of the ex-baseball players the last time we were in this position post-Troy.

Wouldn't surprise me in the least if he decided to get out-think himself again this time around, or more likely go all in on another year of Romo and ignore the coming reality.
