When you spend a ton of money on a guitar, it should come setup by a professional. Overall it's not that bad except for the action is way to high. The intonation seems to be decent though.

I will just get the thing setup again again. I know a good guy that does it, but he is always booked out three freaking weeks. :(

Just get it signed and put it back in the case.

Wish I could play guitar. Had one when I was a kid fooled around with it a little but never got very good at it.

You can get a Fender Squire on Ebay for relatively cheap. (sub $100) It would be a good starter guitar to start learning with. That way, if you decide you don't care to continue, it didn't cost you that much.

I never go cheap on anything I've spent thousands on things I didn't continue with. I never had the talent for a guitar or any other musical instrument. Everything I'm good at I was good at right from the start. If something doesn't come naturally to me i'll never be as good at it as I want to be.

When I was in 7th grade I broke my foot so I couldn't play football that season so I tried out for the band. They assigned instruments to us and they assigned me a tuba. :( I didn't want to play the tuba I was almost in tears as I walked home with in a case. My dad told me to give it a chance I might like it but I told him it's not for me. He kept telling me to just give it a chance so I pouted off to my room and honked on it for several hours. He finally came in my room rubbing his head and said you're right it's not for you.

Buy a Taylor Big Baby. They are relatively cheap acoustic guitars, but sound better than some $3,000 Martin guitars. It's a guitar you will keep forever. It's definitely not trash, but you can get a brand new one for around $375 if you call Sweetwater and get a sales rep then ask them for a discount. That's what I do. I got my Les Paul for $650 off retail. Having the money to pay full price and paying full price when you don't have to are two different things. :)

I won't pay full price on something if I don't have to. I don't go out of my way looking for deals but if there's one I'll take it. If I bought an expensive guitar and gave up trying to play it I would just set it up somewhere and admire it. I know a lot of musicians who could play it I'll get a famous one to play and have them autograph it. :)

Guitar is not solely "talent". It's dedication. It's the time you put in.

No one is good at playing guitar "right from the start"

Anyway...

The one thing you might want to know in advance is the Big Baby has two big ugly screws that go into the next that are fully visible. It's ugly, but the sound produced by that guitar is beautiful. The only other downside that I know of is the fact that it's not a cut away. Well, it's a 15/16th size, so it's slightly smaller than a full size acoustic, but I don't find that an issue considering the sound it produces.

Not saying you can't get good at it if you dedicate yourself to it but regardless of how much dedication you put into it not everyone is going to be as Hendrix or Stevie Ray Vaughn. Some are more gifted at things than others and begin to take to it quicker. I dedicate myself to playing golf for fun been playing since I was 9 years old but have never gotten better than a 4 handicap. Not everyone can reach the level of Tiger Woods no matter how much dedication you put into it. No one is going to pick up a guitar for the first time and start making music but the greatest guitarists took to it pretty quick.

I disagree.

You couldnt have picked a worse analogy. Golf. The most unforgiving sport. lol

You can shred some great solos and be consistent with practice.

Consistency and golf are almost nonexistent.
You can hit this monster drive 300+ straight and perfect. Really, really feel like "hey, I'm getting good at this golf thing".... Then on your next drive you "doink" it and almost kill a bystander... Lol

Granted golf isn't very forgiving but many golf pros dedicate their life to being great players and never reach the elite level of Woods, Nicklaus, Ben Hogan and many others. Not saying you can't shed some great solos and be consistent at guitar with practice but you'll never be as good at it as some who are more gifted at playing. That's the point I'm trying to make.

I'll just disagree with your new point.
Your original point was something else.

Anyways. There are more good to very good guitar players then there are almighty great elitist ones.

I'm good.

My point is still the same I just elaborated more. There's a lot more good to very good guitarists than great guitarists because not everyone is as gifted.

You could been very good... You'll never know.

Checkmate!

I'll never know but I have a few things I'm better than most at but those came naturally to me. Wasn't anything I had to work at.
