How do we solve the back-up QB riddle for next season?

With the exception of Bill Parcells, the developers of Tony Romo. At this point, I would venture a statement that 'Red' is getting very close to that degree of seeing through things and implanting an attitude of ready at all times, now, also.

The team simply needs a backup that can quick release and anticipate openings for a receiver. Not simply waiting in a pocket, until he feels comfortable.

Showers solves the problem? All we've seen of him is a few preseason snaps...get real! C'mon, are you being serious?

I guess I forgot to mention that I'm a total UTEP homer :)

Well in that case you're excused because homerism isn't a weakness it's a disease. It's so debilitating I bet there's at least a couple homers on this board who still haven't given up on the Cowboys making the playoffs this season. They don't care what the math says (**** the math) they have their own math that says if 80 different things happen the playoffs are still possible. I fully expect one of them in the coming days to start a thread devising all the many scenarios that keep the Cowboys playoff and SB chances alive.

Actually, I was thinking this same thing as I made the original post.

Really? He got his to team a super bowl and a championship game. His performance went to crap as the team crumbled around him.

Way to rock the hyperbole though (sorry in advance that you'll have to look it up)

Yeah Really he sucks bad. The SF defense carried them to two NFC championships and a SB in three years. Alex Smith had them there the first year if you remember. I know you think you're so smart but your love for Kaepernick tells a different story.

Ignorant. I live in their market. I actually see him play regularly. He was very impressive those two years.

Moore could be a good 3. Smart.

At 2, I'd like to try to rehab Kaepernick. He's such an elite athlete, he can thrive in the right situation. Plus, a guy that can make plays with his legs is a nice change up if Romo gets knocked out of a game

would Kap accept a back up role?

You live in SF? Well Merry Christmas!

He was good at the read option for a while then everyone got the tape, kind of like RG3.

RG3 got hurt. Kaep is on a team that quickly became a trainwreck. Both got shelved because their huge deals are guaranteed for injury. Most guys get a shot to play their way out of a slump.

I do think that both Kaep and RG3 are looking at one year backup deals to revitalize

Let me point out the ridiculous nature of the "got the tape" argument. Teams had tape forever. NFL teams know exactly what every offense they face is trying to do and how to disrupt it. Kaep all of a sudden had guys around him who couldn't pull off the O. That's the issue more than film. That whole team is a mess and he couldn't carry them.

Name the draft pick you want.

It is the question neither of you can answer. Successful vets aren't available and most draft picks at the position flop. So much so that even Matt Cassell types have value - if Buff hadn't hit on Taylor - a guy who did nothing for 4 years in Balt - Matt would never have been available either. So much so that if four QBs go first round, at least two will be busts

It's time to get serious about winning and acquire Manziel.

Why? Who makes these ridiculous rules? Why is the most important position in football the one area where quality depth is frowned upon?

I can justify it rather easily. This is our QB of the future. We believe in him and his impact down the road but we don't want him seeing the field right now. Done.

The team will draft a QB either in the first or second round. They'll likely dump Cassel and bring in another veteran QB and if Moore continues to show something the final two games he'll be in the mix next summer. I expect the Cowboys to fully cover themselves at the backup position to try and avoid the issues they faced this season after Romo went down.

I hear Drew Brees might be on his way out of New Orleans ;)

If so he'll have plenty of teams looking to sign him. I can assure you he won't be backing anyone up next season.
