How do we solve the back-up QB riddle for next season?

1. Is there someone available in the draft you already like?
2. Is there someone who will be a FA that you like?
3. Are you like Gosselin, and anticipate a trade offer could be made for Manziel?

http://sportsday.***BANNED-URL***/d...ised-cowboys-call-browns-availability-manziel

(Three days, two disagreements with Gosselin, here... that's the second.)

4. Do you imagine a trade could be made for someone else, exploiting our anticipated higher draft pick(s)?
5. Are you so bullish on Moore that you think he's got a legit shot?

I am in the Manziel camp. I think Cle will once again draft another QB. His problems are well documented off the field but he is playing well considering the amount of time for development and his surrounding cast. I think Dallas could keep him out of trouble and he offers almost a two-fer since unlike a rookie he could step in an win games in 2016 if Romo go's down again. His remaining contract is just long enough that by the time Romo hangs em up the team will know if Manziel is the replacement and could re-sign him if he progressed to the point of deserving a shot as the starter.

He has a good pocket presence and above average escapability giving receivers time to get downfield which leads to big plays. He can also pick up first downs with his legs when all else fails extending drives which is hugely important for a team that has so much trouble converting on 3rd and short. The best part is he wouldn't require a premium pick allowing the team to add some top notch talent. Preferably in the secondary where there is a huge need for playmakers.

I think Manziel is better prepared to step in as a starter in 2016(after Romo injury) than any QB in the draft and has as much upside potential as any of them as a long term option. He will mature and grow up and I have to believe he would be thrilled to be in Dallas and out of Cle. I would try to get him for a 3rd rd pick.

1...any of the top 5 QB's in the first 2 rounds. This should be the priority. so as I feel for right now. Lynch, Goff, Cook, Hackenbarg, Wentz.
2. No FA's, been there and done that way too many times.
3. I would never want to be like Gosselin....
4. No trades, no, unless we trade down for extra picks and can still get of the 5 QB's listed.
5. Moore may be a serviceable 3rd stringer, for now. Need to see more, but he is not the long term answer.

I think a lot will depend on how Moore plays the next two games. He could play himself into the back up role for next year. That would let us draft someone to develop. If the talent is there, we could draft a QB in rounds 1 or 2 and they would pretty much become the back up automatically. I don't see a trade coming up unless it might be a draft day trade in a trade down scenario where a player could be involved. Unfortunately, there are not that many good QB so finding a good back up is even harder. The best case would be if Moore shows something in the next two games and we draft a QB in the draft. I would hate for us to waste time with another bum like Johnny football though.

Moore could be a good 3. Smart.

At 2, I'd like to try to rehab Kaepernick. He's such an elite athlete, he can thrive in the right situation. Plus, a guy that can make plays with his legs is a nice change up if Romo gets knocked out of a game

What's it going to be then, eh?

The veteran backup routine is going to be a waste of time next year. Draft is the only way to go. Getting a Matt Moore, Drew Stanton or Luke McCown is no guarantee we aren't going through the same nonsense we did this year. We had two years to figure out Weeden was awful.

I agree. If we can provide Kaepernick the situation where he can play QB without thinking or throwing, he could thrive.

An intelligent organization would not limit themselves to just the three options provided. As I sit here writing this post, I don't honestly know if Manziel offers more then does Moore. At the very least, we need to see how Moore does in his first NFL start. We need to watch him over the last two games. That's where the evaluations on backup start IMO. Still to much we don't know yet.

I see a roster consisting of

Romo
JF or another acquisition
and a 2nd-4th round pick

I want a full court press on the QB position.

It depends though, Dallas could be in a situation where they are forced based on draft value to take a QB in the first....if they take one in the first you can't justifty a veteran backup, you need to have that first round pick as close to the starting lineup as possible.

Draft one, sign one....Moore isn't the answer..

It's hard for me to write off Moore. He handled himself well I thought. He stepped in against a very tough defense and made good reads and delivered the ball well. He made some rookie mistakes, which is understandable given he's never had any meaningful PT. Honestly he does seem to have that "it" factor. I'd like another QB on the roster but I wouldn't go as far as to say Moore had no future.

he has four years of college and four years in the pros, three with Linehan(Det/Dal)....He's small, no mobility, weak arm and the second INT in the end zone is basic reading of the defense and he shouldn't and didn't have the gun to get it there....not impressed with him at all...he's JAG..

He's on of the worst QB's in the league. No thank you.
