What I Would Do This Offseason If I Was In Charge At VR

I clean house and bring in a coach that can make a short term difference and give this team the best chance at winning it all while we still have Romo. Im thinking short term and thinking we have enough talent already and combined with what we get in the draft we can be a team that can win it all with the right coach. Im not stuck on one guy, but I would bring in Jim Harbaugh if it was possible. I would do whatever it took to hire him. He has proven he can make a difference when he comes in and takes over a new team. He's done it in college and in the NFL, even with a krappy QB like Krapernick. With Romo, I have no doubt Harbaugh would get everything out of this team that can be gotten. And with that, I would have no complaints.

The only guy out there who has enough connections and understanding of our operation to take a chance on 'Dem Boys is Sean Payton.
I would be in favor of that, for many of the same reasons that you stated.

totally agree, I personally don't like him but would be happy to have him coaching our boys since he'd be a CLEAR and SIGNIFICANT upgrade over JG.
I was hoping we'd go after him when he was on the outs with SanFran but last year's tease had JJ thinking JG could get us there, its clear he can't. Amazing that nearly every other team in the league can find a way to win a game or two without their starting QB except for us. Just fail.

I'm half and half on Garrett. Here's what I like and do not like about him:

Strengths- Keeps the players fighting, week in and week out. Great human being. Intelligent. I love his stone face to the media, and his robotic approach to press conferences. Very level headed. Supposedly very good rapport with players (can't say for certain because I'm not in the locker room, but everything points to that). Players respect him. I like that he cares about having hard working players who are good guys that live and breathe football.

Neutral- Lack of experience. This can only be fixed with time, and can't be counted as a negative IMO. Needs more experience with in game management.

Negatives- His offensive philosophy. This is perhaps the biggest aspect of a coaches resume. It's a real shame that his scheme is lacking. Romo has hidden the ineptitude that is this offensive philosophy for years. I wish he had a different mindset offensively. Something more creative. Something that helped our players be better. As it stands right now, I think his offensive scheme holds players back. That is bad. Also, the lack of in-game adjustments. This is another real killer.

Garrett as a coach brings a lot to the table. There's a lot to like about him. It's just a shame that his two biggest weaknesses are perhaps the two biggest factors in winning games.

That might be a great choice too. Thats why I said Im not stuck on one guy. But Harbaugh is an example of the kinda guy I want. Doesnt have to be him, but somebody in that mold. Somebody that makes a world of difference.

I like your thoughts and think it would be great but I see no way we would ever see a Harbaugh here. They would not meet the number one criteria of being a Dallas coach in that they can't make Jerry feel uncomfortable. I do not see Jerry allowing this. Sean Payton on the other hand may fit the bill.

They would not meet the number one criteria of being a Dallas coach in that they can't make Jerry feel uncomfortable. I do not see Jerry allowing this. Sean Payton on the other hand may fit the bill.

Payton would be fine. We just need a change. 5 yrs is a long time in the NFL. Jimmy went from 1-15 to 2 Lombardi's and left the cupboard full. Red has 1 playoff win with a roster that had pro bowlers.

This is a complete overreaction. I am not happy that with the way the season played out and believed a lot of players underachieved when we needed them the most. Zack Martin, Doug Free, and Tyron Smith were not dominant at all. Terence Williams and Escobar disappeared. That is not on Garret. Yes I would have loved a much better QB that is all on Jerry Jones who completely overestimated both Brandon Weeden and Matt Cassel's abilities. Scott Linehan actually wanted to roll with Moore and Bryan Broaddus brought up that point more than once on The Break. This season is more on the GM than it is the coaching staff. Jason Garret did not let Murray walk. Jason Garret did not want Brandon Weeden or Matt Cassel.

Changing the coaching staff for the sake of change is not a good idea. A new coach will want to implement in his own scheme. That is what happened with Linehan and Maranelli and I do not think this team should start over. A new HC might want to go with a 3-4 or implement a 2 TE offense when his team works best with a 3 WR set. Because of Maranelli, Ware was much less effective than he would have been. Carr and Claiborne were drafted to play in man schemes like Rob Ryan's. This team had to bring in new D lineman and rendered young talent like Wilber and Crawford less effective.

If I were GM, I would keep this team together and stay the course. I were bring in mid teir FAs that are cheap and will not break the bank. I would try to resign Greg Hardy as I don't think he will be uber expensive anymore. I would also resign James Hanna as he is a very good player that is extremely underrated. I would try to sign Travis Benjamin from Cleveland as he should be very cheap but has some serious deep speed and bring in Lamar Miller as he is very unhappy in Miami and wants out. Signing those 2 players would make a huge difference on offense and would give this team a speed element that they do not currently possess. Then in the draft you could easily take QB in the first 2 rounds and have a quality player to take over for Romo. This team is not lacking talent and does not need to be torn down.

Myself, I'd upgrade the Oline coach, replace Wilcox with anyone I can find, draft a DT that can help free up Crawford, a speed WR, prospect QB in the 3rd, RB depth and Jaylen Ramsey.
