Jerry Jones won't make major overhaul: Cowboys 'closer than this record indicates'

Our defense has flaws but they have been good enough, our running game has flaws but we still have a top 5 back according to yardage so they have been good enough---we still have a premier OL. We have the worst passing game/QB play in the NFL, that is by far the biggest reason we have this record. Even with our QB play, we have been in every game but 2 going into the fourth quarter. Fix our QB play and we will compete in this division.

I am all for upgrading literally every position while we are at it but the team does not need an overhaul. We win the division this season with even average QB play IMO.
If its just about winning a weak NFC east then sure, but Jerrys talking contending and going to a SB, this will require some sort of overhaul, if not in the players, then maybe in the staff.

Someone should ask Jerry why his team has hasn't had back to back playoff winning seasons since the Jimmy Johnson ERA....Why JERRY... WHY....this is the same ol Cowboys that hype and hope..and wont or dont no how to...build a true contender........History told us this was going to be a mess of year....we just didn't no (or want to believe) how bad of a train wreck it would be......crash and burn to 4-11...OUCH

Look at the Cowboys history....it is (factually) repeating itself....again....

matter of fact only 9 winning season in the last 20years.....

Yeah and Denver just clinched its 5th straight playoff appearance last night while we've been to the playoffs only once in the last 5 years.

But this is an entirely different dicussion. I tend to agree that the first issue facing this team is the coaching. But what we are talking about here is the roster and Jones says he doesn't think we need a roster overhaul (or insinuated it) and people get all bent out of shape.

overhaul in staff. overhaul in scheme. using the same staff and scheme wont take us to the SB at all. if Jerry's goal is just to make into the playoffs than fine. that's not mine as a fan.

It all comes down to a question of how people define "overhaul". As I said earlier, I see that word and think total roster reconstruction as if we are the Jags or Titans.

Is that what people want Jones to admit we need to do? Rip it down, tear it apart and rebuild it from the ground up?

Or are people just wanting a few key free agents say at need positions like the 1 tech, safety opposite Jones, a CB to go with Scandrick?

And largely because of their defense coached by you know who. We could have had Phillips as DC back then and Jerrah hired him for defense but did that weird Coach and Assistant Coach in Training for Garrett, assuring Wade's head was on the block the whole time and Garrett was behind him holding the knife.

I'm at work and didn't read the whole article closely, but did Jerry say no total overhaul of the roster and the coaching staff or just the roster. I think we can win with this roster with a few drops and adds. Its the coaching staff that needs a total demolition and overhaul....

I get that but the point in the OP was about the team, the roster, not the coaching staff.

The only comment he made about coaching was repeating the not coached up comment. The rest was about the players. That said, I don't think he'll fire Garrett though I wish he would.

I think with the players we have, we are better than our record. But our coaching staff has to go.

Marinelli is a motivator, but he won't perplex a rookie QB into mistakes

Linehan is Linehan. Nothing special about his plays

The rest I won't comment on.

and thats my point. "Jones believes this team is much closer to the Super Bowl than its 4-11 record indicates."

we are not much closer to the SB that 12-4 indicates either. we will never be again if we continue being arrogant about this.

its not the roster so much as its the staff and scheme. thats my issue. 12-4 is an outlier.

If Cam Newton went down week 2, the Carolina Panthers would be picking in the top 10 with us. That is an offense with below average receivers, an average running game that is built around a QB's abilities and that QB is having a tremendous season. The defense is very good but Cam Newton's tremendous season is what makes them elite and helps them win all the close games they have had this year.

All I know is that every NFC team besides the Cowboys, Commanders, and Lions have at least made it to the NFCC game since 1999. The Cowboys have only won 2 playoff games in that span. Something has to give....

I still think there is a chance that Garret gets canned. Jerry has brought up the "not coached up" comment several times now, and 4-12 off season with no changes brings little media attention to the attention ***** that Jerry is. Fring Garrett and the search for a HC coach to replace him would keep Jerry in the spotlight, especially if he can upstage the Super Bowl by announcing the new coach during SB week.

fair point but i doubt it. every other team but us can have a scheme thats malleable enough to where a backup QB can come it to be at least serviceable to win a couple or more games to take them away from picking in the top 10.
