ARLINGTON, Texas – Immediately following the Dallas Cowboys’ season finale on Jan. 3, a somber Morris Claiborne, in street clothes, was hunched over the front of his locker scrolling through hiscell phone.

“It seems like it was yesterday,” Claiborne told The Times, reminiscing of the night in New York he was stunned to hear the voice ofJerry Jones.

The phone call came after the Cowboys owner used a first- and second-round pick to vault eight spots and select the much-heralded LSU cornerback at No. 6 overall in the 2012 NFL Draft.

“But it seems like a long time ago, too,” Claiborne said.

That night in Manhattan, it seemed as if the sky was the limit for the former Fair Park and Tigers superstar. Claiborne had just corralled the Jim Thorpe Award (nation’s best defensive back) and departed Baton Rouge a year early to pursue his dream of playing on Sundays.

Unfortunately, many of those Sundays were spent just like his last in the 2015 season -- as an observer.

“I’ll miss coming to work and being able to be around guys that are like a second family for me,” he said.

Sounds like he does'nt think he'll be back.

He wants a fresh start. He's gone. Just when he started to figure things out a little bit.

You started your sentence with "if".

If the Cowboys want to lift themselves from mediocrity, they need to stop pinning their hopes on "if".

Just my $0.02.

I guess they should forgo the draft and free agency moving forward then...along with playing games, since there is no certainty in any of those things. Go bury your head in the sand.

His future will be somewhere else unless he's kept for depth as a backup that's all he's good for.

Jenkins, Newman and Pac-Man Jones have left here and been Productive. Hell even Reeves was a starter for a while.

Pacman and Newman have 17 INT's between them since they left Dallas while Carr and Claiborne only have 9 INT's between them. Mo only has 3 INT's in his 4 seasons.

He makes a good point. He didn't say stop drafting players. He said stop making long term investments with the Sean Lees and Rolando McClains of the world.

Let's be real. Morris was considered the best corner coming out that year. I was watching his college highlight video on YouTube the other day. Wow!!! I would of never thought he would be this bad. He could never stay healthy and we have to move on. I will say this though, his forty time was not that great and he looks like he weighs a buck 50.

Some guys just don't make the leap from college to the NFL or take longer to do so... Is it coaching?

Man that factoid really makes me sick. The most frustrating part of this team the last decade for me has been this pathetic secondary.
