From BR so take it with a grain of salt, but Jason Cole is a pretty reliable reporter (or maybe not, I've heard mixed reports on him.)

Sources say that besides the drama surrounding him and the fact that he was late to team meetings, he also "partied throughout the season" and the Cowboys didn't like that he never got into great shape.

I do hope his instincts are correct on this!
The Cowboys, as you know, are besieged by nonfans who can't wait to paint the team in strokes of negativity. Hardy only added to their pleasure, and they insinuated we harbor abusers and other bad sorts.

Good riddance to Hardy. (I hope) We cannot afford his baggage or "passion."

He was "OK" and the Cowboys needed more than "OK" out of him.

Needed more than "OK" out of lots of players.

Assuming a player who has been off a year and dogged by negative press to turn off all the outside noise and rack up 12 plus sacks in 12 games was not very realistic.

Some of it, a good bit of it, was his fault, but the expectations were overblown to begin with.

I don't think it's a surprise.

I kept thinking, "OK Hardy is going to get his head on straight..."

And.... no.

Use the money to sign Mario Williams or Ware if they become available.

Really like the Mario Williams idea but how much?

I would use the free agency, to elevate the pass rush for this season. I would also sign a QB and CB that are strong, not roster filling.

Oh no doubt the expectations were too high.

He somewhat underwhelmed as a played (key word "somewhat").

But the killer is that he is afflicted with knuckleheadiness disease.

Once the media was on him, he mentally checked out. That is pretty clear. I still believe he could be a better player and more connected a year removed from the talk that he is the second coming of the Anti-Christ.

At the right price, I would welcome him back. I don't think he will command a high salary. So, I think an incentive-laden contract will motivate him to be on time and skip the parties (assuming those rumors are true.).

well well, if true, where are all those that said I was crazy for saying he would not be here after 1 year?

While I agree with this, it was his fault he never got into great shape he looked heavy all year.

And I think that had more to do with his issues than anything else.

...fix both defensive tackles in the draft. No band aides with potential.

He had incentives in his contract this year.

I think that a lot depends on his contract demands. I am of the opinion that he would be a better player once he has a full Off Season regiment, a full Camp and Pre-Season under his belt. However, if the team decides to move on, they would certainly be in a better position to know the actual sitation, much more then I.

Let's see what happens.

I guess I might be in the minority here but I dont think both DTs need to be fixed. I think the 3 tech is in decent shape. I know many are down on Crawford but he played last year injured and was playing alongside a total waste at the 1 tech in Hayden. Get a real 1 tech in here with some skill and I think Crawford will be fine at the other DT spot. And I like Irving's potential as well so I think the 3 tech isn't a huge need unless a stud is just sitting there in the draft.
