Don't think Moss or TO are first ballot HOFers in today's pass happy game.
Can't compare to Jerry Rice whom for much of his career could get mugged.

No, Rice couldn't, and didn't, get mugged for most of his career. The five yard chuck rule went into effect in 1978. Rice wasn't getting ridden up and down the field like guys did pre-1978. The only rule changes now that have made things easier for WRs since the Mel Blount Rule went into effect is the elimination of the big hits over the middle due to "defenseless" receivers.

Both Moss and TO should be first ballot guys based not only on their production, but because when both played, they were considered the top WRs in the game. That's the measure of a Hall of Famer.

He made Romo better that's for sure.
In the final analysis, he really didn't.

Romo's targets of Owens
198 of 360 (55.0%) 3105 yd (8.6 ypa) 33 td 19 int 92.4

Romo's other attempts, 2006-08
641 of 957 (67.0%) 7519 yd (7.9 ypa) 58 td 29 int 98.2

For comparison's sake...

Romo's targets of Bryant
349 of 554 (63.0%) 5017 yd (9.1 ypa) 50 td 12 int 113.4

Romo's other attempts, 2010-2015
1308 of 1934 (67.6%) 14124 yd (7.3 ypa) 91 td 50 int 93.8

And if you're thinking, "Well, Romo improved at the intermediate-to-deep passes as his career progressed..."

Romo's 15+yard targets of Owens
51 of 112 (45.5%) 1635 yd (14.6 ypa) 18 td 8 int 101.9

Romo's other 15+yard targets, 2006-08
78 of 149 (52.3%) 2198 yd (14.8 ypa) 16 td 9 int 108.4

Romo's 15+yard targets of Bryant
68 of 153 (44.4%) 2110 yd (13.8 ypa) 19 td 4 int 119.9

Romo's other 15+yard targets, 2010-15
125 of 264 (47.3%) 3561 yd (13.5 ypa) 31 td 14 int 110.7

What a great thread for bringing all the classic TO haters back out... He should have been 1st ballot period. Anything less is just embarrassing for all involved in the process.

Big dummies.

It's justice.

I just don't get how a guy with stats that great isn't considered a first ballot guy. I mean T.o. Is top 5 all time in td's behind guys like Rice and Emmitt and he's number 2 all time behind Jerry Rice in receiving yards. The media needs to be ashamed for letting the off the field stuff get in the way of what the stats show.

The hall of shame strikes again.

From a performance standpoint, he definitely should have made it. But are stats the only thing that matters?

They are supposed to be the only thing that matters but clearly they are not. I wish the committee would have the guts to come out and say that. I couldn't stand his selfish say what I want without regard for who it hurts or if it wrecks my team mentality, but his numbers are HOF numbers. I don't like that these players can bust their butts for 15 years and put up insane numbers, then not get rewarded because some 60year old writer who had his feelings hurt by the player is getting his revenge. Ridiculous.

Ummmmm....did he injure, mame or kill anyone? Rape or beat the crap out of anyone? Caught human trafficking? No? In that case he is a no doubt HOF'er.

I guess HOF takes off points for reputation.

On the flip side, they give points for reputation and "team first" players and I'm thinking Troy Aikman when I write that. He didn't have the stats other great QB's did but people realized he sacrificed stats for team success and they didn't let stats be the sole factor for his selection.

Stats and well FAME, I guess. How could he not make it on that?

Hey I think he should have made it. I'm not one of the voters, though.

Ummmmm....did he injure, mame or kill anyone? Rape or beat the crap out of anyone? Caught human trafficking? No? In that case he is a no doubt HOF'er.

Who the heck said any of that? Again, I think he's a first ballot HOF'er. My question was rhetorical, as obviously in this case, stats seemingly weren't all that mattered to some.
