Bob Sturm's 2016 Draft Profile Series: Myles Jack, LB, UCLA

It's amazing how these guys think. Every single one of these geniuses is okay with taking a cornerback in the top 5. But an OG? An ILB? Do they REALLY impact the game that much?

I especially love the but could you get gems later defense. Because we all know you can't get any cornerbacks later. That's never happened.

Swing and a miss, Bobby.

Draft him. It's not like our corners get turn overs, two ball hawking superb cover line backers (lee/jack) would be fun to watch. Does this scheme even allow for two stud LB's to flourish at the same time, or would it hold one back?

Urlacher & Briggs did just fine together in it.

If you think they are built the same, buy a clue.

The Myles Jack you saw in college was trim for playing RB. Myles Jack the LB would not look the same. He's already on record to saying he believes he can transform his body to which ever position a team asks him to play.

“I feel like I can transition my body into whatever position they want me to play,” Jack said. “I feel like I have the skill set and desire to do whatever they need me to do. It’s not an issue.”

So we are in "win now" mode for Romo, getting him the defense.

Yet, we take Jack at 4 and then will ask him to remake his body which may take a while.

Sounds very intelligent.

That is why we will take Ramsey. Do I want him ? Not really but he's probably going to pick the pick. It has Jerry jones all over it.

Say it with me...Best. Player. Available. Now repeat every night before you go to bed and you might get it.

And he's already been working out since he left UCLA. I'm still trying to figure it in what world 6'1 245 became too small. Luke Keuchley was 6'3 229 at the combine for crying out loud.

Personally I don't take a 4-3 LB unless he is can't miss elite: just like I would never take a 3-4 DE that high unless he's the second coming of Seymour or Watt

Must. Fit. With. The. Team. That. Selects. The. Best. Player. Available.

It is not just a mindless exercise where you just scream "BPA" and ignore the details.

Wasn't Ray Lewis 6"1 coming out of college ? I don't think heights an issue. After the combine im pretty sure the Cowboys will have it narrowed down to Ramsey Vs Jack .

Doesn't change the fact Jack and McClain are not the same build. Jack is more compact whereas McClain is taller and lankier.

Not sure how that factors into this discussion but they are two totally different body types.

I never said that they were the same body type, I just said that the idea that a 6'1 245 LB isn't big enough is asinine at best

I would never take a qb top 5 unless they are cant miss elite. Why is it different?

He's a beast. If you spend the 4 on a guy and he ends up a beast, you take that and be happy with it.

Now, if you think there's a beast at QB or a pass rusher there, you take that instead, but if that guy's not there, Jack would be a great pick.

I highly doubt we are going to take a LB in the top 5.................I really think the pick is going to be Ramsey or Bosa if he falls.

I don't think Bosa falls to 4, so I think our pick is going to be Ramsey

Not a fan a taking a CB/S in the top 5 that had no picks last season, we already have plenty of DBs that cant make picks.

This is what i dont like about Sturms writings. He's asking questions to things he answered himself. He's talking about premium posistion, if the tampa 2 the MLB is one of the most important parts because he's responsibile for the run and the middle in pass. Tjhat plays right into Jack's strengths. Add him with Lee and you have a duo IMO better than Keuchley and Thomas. Lee since switching to that new style helmet was actually playing ruthless without worrying bout them concussions. Because of the support it gave him. Jack makes too much sense for Dallas at 4. Sturm actually tries to find something wrong with Jacks game and he says lack of production but then says its because he wasnt asked to do that. Thats not lack of production, thats called not being asking to do it lol. Just like in Dallas he isnt going to be asked to blitz. At 4 there is nobody with a higher ceiling then Jack. I actually think after the combine Dallas might not even get the chance to take him.

dallas doesn't run a tampa 2.
in fact that defense has been beaten out of the league.

sturm is correct that at 4 you should be looking at cornerstone positions first.

dallas has 2 top flight middle linebackers in ro and sean lee.
they have a young quality lb with hitchens.

i love myles jack but his position is a very valid concern.

Pretty sure I could count on 1 hand how many times McClain played 4 quarters of good football last year. Not to mention- 3 INT, 3 sacks, 0 forced fumbles, and 6 pass deflections in 23 starts for us the past 2 seasons. We should be grateful for the what we were able to get out of Ro, but we shouldn't be content with a MLB that just makes tackles in the box. Lack of pressure is our #1 problem on D, but lack of players that can actually make a play (outside of Lee) is another huge problem.
