By this reasoning that means no RB, WR, G, T (we have him already), S?
I am not sure I agree with that. There are game changing LBs. Retrospectively, would you not have taken Urlacher, Lewis, Wills in the top 5? I am pretty certain there are quite a few players drafted in front of them in those drafts that vastly under performed or simply busted. I agree with an article that it almost doesn't matter who Dallas draft at 4 as long as he is an impact player for us.
That is a great way to discuss it.
We may ultimately disagree but this is exactly the way to look at it imho. Look at rate of hitting on the position and then look at value if you do hit.
Pat Willis, 11 in 2007. I probably would not take him top 5. You have double whammy of it being a non-pass rush LB and those guys getting hurt. Darrelle Revis went a couple picks later. Paul Posluzney(sp?) went in the 30s. Strong dract class. Willis fits nicely at about 11.
Brian Urlacher, 9 in 2000, I would absolutely have taken him top 5. That was one of the worst drafts in NFL history. A kicker went 17.
Ray Lewis. 26, 1996. No, couldn't take him top 5 in that draft. There were a couple franchise LTs and a couple elite pass rushers that went top of that draft. It was a very strong draft. Ray was worth a top 10 pick for sure, but hard to say top 5. Weird deal because a lot of his value was team leadership and character stuff but he also had off-the field incident which would have gotten him banned a year plus in today's NFL.
Th bad thing about looking back years ago is how poorly Dallas drafted... good lord we were awful in the Jerry/Lacewell years.
