Cowboys defensive end Randy Gregory will miss the first four games of the 2016 regular season. The Cowboys understandably aren’t happy. “This is a disappointment,” Cowboys executive V.P. and COO Stephen Jones said about Gregory’s suspension, via Charean Williams of the Fort Worth Star-Telegram. “We have been clear with Randy about what his responsibilities are…http://youwillnotrackme2.net/b.gif?host=profootballtalk.nbcsports.com&blog=&post=2380615&subd=nbcprofootballtalk&ref=&feed=1

Agree with the article that Gregory has to assume mucho responsibility.

But at the same time I wonder about the support-network supplied by both the Cowboys and Gregory's agent.

There is an old adage that one can lead a horse to water, but you can't force him to drink...all is dependent upon how long you hold him under.

There one has it, since the offered severity wasn't met, then by all means hold him under!

Or one can hold an adult accountable at each step that he takes from departure of High School.

Paths are selected in person then...and only resolutions are inclusive of others. He is still going foul...and easy or not, blame is still his. The team has discussed, assisted, and provided extensive outside resources for his selection process.

I'm sorry this involves the Cowboys...but football isn't the excuse. And resources are available and part of a contract agreement as well.

No, the blame is his, unless puberty lasts until nearing the 30 year point and then they by board accountings, should just be let go.

The site offering these declarations is the same place who has glamorized Cowboy smut and also made a soap opera with any incident that could use discretion.

Think about that. It is partially the fault,of,the team and his agent because he didn't know enough to stay out of trouble? Isn't that saying he is not a grown man and needs to be taken care of? Or maybe he is just livestock that needs to be penned up at night so he doesn't wander out of the pasture? Some would say it is racial stereotyping. Not me, but some.

He has it written into his contract that he is to respond with an advisor on personal problems that include anxiety for himself...as if he and his agent weren't fully aware from the start.

So, he has an excuse built into his contract? Anxiety? Maybe the team is at fault for drafting such a loser.

I am sure of it! I really hate him.

We have a zero tolerance policy. One strike and you lose your job. Really easy to abide by. Very, very few people ever cross the line.

Seems the more chances you give someone the more likely they will abuse those chances.

Makes no sense he supposed to have anxiety and he smokes weed!? I have bad anxiety and that's the last thing I would want to do!

He is going down a similar path as Josh Gordon, just faster. Next stop, one year suspension.

I'm not.

The support group's role is pretty simple. "Randy, you absolutely, positively can't smoke weed if you want to play in the NFL." That the extent of anyone else's responsibility in this mess. It's what cost him millions in the draft and all of the humiliation that came with it. Nobody knew those consequences better than him

The sickening part is that it didn't just happen one time, but multiple times.

I said this last yr before the draft and when he was drafted. Wrong pick. Wrong scheme, too light and has a drug problem.

This thread is about Gregory, not the coaches of the front office. There is an entire forum dedicated to that topic so feel free to take it there. Otherwise, keep this about Gregory.
