Signed by Cowboys Dunbar re-signs ** One Year $1.75M **

This is good news. It looked like another team might pick him up. With Romo's fondness for empty set formation and 5 WR, he is a nice guy to have on the field.

How hilarious would it be if we're sitting there in the 6th round and still haven't added a RB again?

And you thought that McFadden/Dunbar thing was for 2015 only. This is our future, baby.

PHI showed how easy it is to get of bad contracts. Most FA deals are 2-3 years tops.

Even the Vernon deal with NY can be ended after 2yrs and 40m worst case.

Cowboys don't have the luxury to eat contracts like thst when they actually have talent they need to re-sign.

I like the signing, he is a great weapon out of the backfield..................the problem is the dude is made of glass, I highly doubt he makes it to week 5.

How quickly people forget...........

Dunbar had 21 receptions for team-high 215 yards through first 3 games in 2015;)

so do they use him on kickoffs again ????????? lol
It was really dumb to use him on KO and is what got him hurt.

Geez people it's not like we signed him long term. He's a good player albeit often injured. But it's tough for me to get upset at a one year deal for a player we know is effective when on the field. Alot of guys have turned thier careers around after injuries who's to say Dunbar can't be one of them?

I think we've reached the point of the off season where we are so frustrated about what has/hasn't happen that any minor deal is just another reason to be pissed.

yeah a 1 year deal is ok, as long as they just use him to catch passes and run a little.

Seriously, though, how are they forgetting? It was an all-Dunbar offense after Dez and Tony went down. For a game and a half, there, before he blew out his knee again.

Dunbar is a faster Sproles. He just needs to stay healthy. Serious matchup problem when out wide. He demands a fast quick DB. No S or LB is going to stay with him.

Being in pattern by design and checking down are not mutually exclusive. As far as facts, he's missed more than a third of the games since college. He's not dependable. Yes he averaged 13.4 yards per carry last year in 5 whole attempts, but he averaged 3.4 yards in 99 carries the year before. He's overrated by Cowboy fans. Seattle and San Francisco didn't bite. We did.

His rushing YPC is irrelevant to his importance here. Yet you have chosen to use that to support your argument. In his case, what's relevant is his ability to catch the ball and make a play in space.

my God, the negativity is staggering on this site...Dunbar is a good and cost-effective signing...the upside to this guy is pretty large...if he gets hurt, it doesn't crush the team financially...if he stays healthy, it helps the offense greatly

I swear, everyone wants every signing to be the next coming of the triplets....

The Dunbar criticism puzzles me. Health wise his track record is better than both Lee and Claiborne. And when utilized correctly, he may be the most explosive player on this team. Dez is the best talent but 5-6 years in they still have yet to figure out how to fully utilize him.

so tru and great deal if he can get back from injury

One thing everyone needs to remember .. One of the reasons teams sign players to one-year contracts is because they can act as insurance policies. It's very plausible for example that Dunbar is not on the roster once the season starts if the Cowboys draft one or more running backs who make the roster. Right now, they've secured a contingency option if the draft does not go well for them running back wise or the running back(s) they draft do not make the active roster. It's not like they gave him a 3-year/$9-million contract which would hurt the cap if they released him. I know people are upset we didn't break the bank on 2-3 players, but these kinds of free agent signings are important in their own ways if things don't pan out with the draft or players get hurt during pre-season.

Did he get a signing bonus on this 1 year deal? If so and he is not on the roster in September, then that is a cap hit, although probably a small one.

I'd use him on KO and PR all through camp and pre-season, just to see if we could break him before the season starts. If he makes it through the Summer, then I may trust him more. Please do not baby him through the summer, test him!

they were 60m under the cap and he was the top FA

and that is worst case scenario but it isn't crippling forever

Sure... but it's just ridiculous we have reached this stage. 40 mill over 2 years isn't crippling. Crazy when you think the league is still trying to turn it in to flag football.
