True but I was also going to go with the fact that maybe the Cowboys were actually smart and realized they couldn't rely on McFadden staying healthy again for a full season?

Well, that is somewhat possible also.

McFadden is a fraud. He got a lot of garbage yards in games that were already decided for the part. A true quality starter he is not. He should be replaced.

But have no fear. He won't be. This is about unleashing a rotation of backs on a league that might not be prepared for it.

exactly how many games did he win for his team last year? I'm throwing my christmas fit! i want elite a RB that can win a game w/o an elite QB at the helm, this RBBC crap is for the birds this is the freaking cowboys the star = bellcow! an alfred dmc backfield...oh the joy on christmas morning...

Why do y'all think this has to do with McFadden? He's cheap and he was good last year. Why would they replace him?

For as cheap as McFadden is, I don't see him going anywhere, unless we do draft a RB that outplays him and makes McFadden irrelevant. Don't see that happening tho. McFadden was very serviceable, blocks, and has experience. I'd like to see how good McFadden can be when he has a legit QB like Romo at the helm keeping defenses honest.
But to answer your question.. The only reason I could see letting McFadden go besides being outplayed by a better Rookie like EE is.. The story that leaked out at the end of the season was that the OL had to completely change their scheme to fit McFaddens running style after they released Randle. Morris is more like Demarco in that he makes one cut and bust through the middle of the OL for yards. McFadden was more finesse, yet had more speed on the edges. Hopefully, the FO does snag Elliott because I believe he provides a combo of what both Morris and McFadden bring..not to mention something they don't. Youth and fresh legs.

Friendly contract, not long-term, don't see the downside. DMac is a FA next year so I don't think this does anything to our RB situation as it pertains to the draft. Besides, if Morris and DMac are so good you wouldn't draft a RB, we wouldn't be talking about the need to draft a RB.

Has it ever occurred that maybe he is a misfit even if he seemed productive? We had to go to more of a mixed blocking scheme because of some of his challenges running the zone.

I know I certainly would not want him around holding up progress if we drafted a quality young back in April.

People can pooh pooh it all they want, but McFadden was absolutely awful anytime he ran zone plays. This OL was put together to run a ZBS and simply put, McFadden prevents that. He's in no danger of being cut today or probably after the draft even if a RB like Henry, Booker or Dixon is drafted. He is most definitely going to be on the bubble in camp if a RB is drafted somewhere in Rds 2-4. If all 4 come out of preseason healthy (DMC, Morris, Dunbar and Rookie). I would be willing to bet he's the odd man out. Especially since Garrett has an abnormal obsession with a 10 snap per game FB neing on the roster.

Why people have their panties in a bunch over this is bizarre.

If the Cowboys do their jobs, it won't really matter what the Eagles or Giants do.

What's bizarre is that you would underestimate the Giants with OBJ, Cruz and Elliott. I know they have holes elsewhere and so do we but a player like Elliott going to a division rival counts.

Everything matters and while we can certainly dictate on offense the defense hasn't exactly been known to "do it's job" the past few years.

I don't know if I am the first to say this or not...

I hope us signing one of the Skins former players works out better for us than the players that we have had and went on to play with the Commanders.

I agree.

I am not underestimating the Giants or anyone.

But the fact remains, the biggest hinderance to the Cowboys winning the division and making a SB run is themselves, not what the Giants and Eagles do.

Guess what? If the Eagles take Ronnie Stanley and give themselves another young stud OT, that's gonna hurt too. Or if they take Myles Jack and add him to a front seven that has some nice talent, that's going to hurt too.

Worry about ourselves first and stop worrying that the freaking Eagles might end up with Elliott.

Good signing. Doesn't take Elliott out of the equation, but perhaps it makes a risk at trading down to still get him more worth taking.

DMC is not a fraud. Is just an AVG RB. He is what he is. If people think he is better than AVG then the person thinking that is a fraud. DMC is better than Morris but Morris is a nice fall back option when DMC gets injured.

It takes him out of the equation. Frankly, he probably wasn't part of the equation anyway given how the Cowboys have been pretty clear about what money they would sink into the running back position.

All this does is just solidify the belief they'll probably do what they did last year which is look for a RB in that 3rd-4th round range.

Elite RB's do not win games for the team. Elite QB's don't even do that. Teams win games. Passing, running, defense, special teams. Running might actually have the least on winning/losing out of those elements.

Morris could be a major steal. Quintessential ZB back.

Looked like he may have been worn down, but he still only has 4 years under his belt so writing him off may have been premature

I could see guys like Kenyan Drake, CJ Prosise or Paul Perkins in the 4th

I think Cruz is shot.
