What would be a success for a DL at 4? Would anything less than 20 sacks a season be a failure?
Yes, lets act like RB is remotely close to DE on the hard to acquire scale. Thats why the price in FA shows exactly how valuable RBs are.
A DE that averaged 7.25 sacks his first 4 years just got a 5 year $85 million contract with $45 million guaranteed. A QB with 2100 CAREER passing yards just got a 4 year $72 million contract with $37 million guaranteed.
Meanwhile, the 2nd leading rusher by a large margin only got a 5 year deal for $37 million with a measly $15 million guaranteed. The year before that? The leadin rusher by an even larger margin only got a 5 year deal worth $40 million with only $20 million guaranteed. Look how that turned out btw.
What, you think it's a great idea to not only spend the 4th overall pick on a 1 contract player, but pay him $6 million dollars per year to do it AND guarantee him more than either of the two above? Have at it. It doesn't change the fact that its ludicrous, nonsensical, idiotic or any one of a dozen other synonyms for stupid.
