What would be a success for a DL at 4? Would anything less than 20 sacks a season be a failure?

Yes, lets act like RB is remotely close to DE on the hard to acquire scale. Thats why the price in FA shows exactly how valuable RBs are.

A DE that averaged 7.25 sacks his first 4 years just got a 5 year $85 million contract with $45 million guaranteed. A QB with 2100 CAREER passing yards just got a 4 year $72 million contract with $37 million guaranteed.

Meanwhile, the 2nd leading rusher by a large margin only got a 5 year deal for $37 million with a measly $15 million guaranteed. The year before that? The leadin rusher by an even larger margin only got a 5 year deal worth $40 million with only $20 million guaranteed. Look how that turned out btw.

What, you think it's a great idea to not only spend the 4th overall pick on a 1 contract player, but pay him $6 million dollars per year to do it AND guarantee him more than either of the two above? Have at it. It doesn't change the fact that its ludicrous, nonsensical, idiotic or any one of a dozen other synonyms for stupid.

Funny thing to all of these Zeke truthers out there. He wouldn't have been the top RB last year and he wouldn't have been the top RB next year. But this year he should be the 4th overall pick...

So in the past few days I've read we would be dumb to draft with our no4 pick:

A) Bosa- reach on a DE without the quick twitch to be an elite pass rusher. He's good but not a difference maker. We just took Greg Ellis at no4?!

B) Goff/Wentz - take a qb with a no4 pick who is not a generational talent and you already have a high priced qb on your roster. Theres not much of a drop off to Lynch. We are wasting away an opportunity to get an impact player to put you over the top. We were a catch away from the NFC championship game and we drafted a backup?!!

C) Ramsey - You don't win with a secondary, you win in the trenches. He's a S and not even the best CB in the draft. Did we not learn from the Claiborne debacle?!

D) Jack - Aleardy have Lee and Mclain. This guy has big time medical red flags. You can't risk that with the no4 pick. His knee is a ticking time bomb!!

E) Elliot - No way we can take rb at no4. You can take a stud rb later on in the draft. Do we know nothing about value? Even Emmitt Smith said not to take a rb at no4!!

F) Tunsil - We spent way to much resources in our OL. We won't be able to keep it together when they come up for new contracts. Law of diminishing returns. What good does a dominant OL do if we don't have a defense. We need sacks and TOs!!

It must be the final days before draft. The meltdown with whoever we pick is gona be epic. CAN'T WAIT!

I hope this is true.

If we truly want to compete with Romo as our QB, Zeke is the best option.

I don't believe we'll have a shot at either QB and Zeke has a real impact day 1, compared to the other guys available (whose positions usually dictate a 2-3 year learning curve)

How about the team "make a push" for both of those clowns out the door?

"Yeah, if only we had a Top 4 pick running back Jerry, then we might have actually been able to coach some wins out of this team, yeah, that it!"

"Oh, and we're gonna need another receiver, and possibly another tight end, and a lineman, definitely another lineman, if we can somehow trade back into round 1 and get Tunsil too, we can really get a good offense going for you Mr. Jones!"

:lmao:

We might as well not draft anyone.

I could see Elliott if tunsil is there and we could trade back a few spots. Don't think Elliott, as much as I like him, is that much better than a guy you can get in the second. Especially when you consider you get the other player too. Just don't think taking Elliott at 4 is smart and I like him. Add another pick and get Elliott I could see. Elliott at 4 I don't do that pick myself

WHAAAAAAAAT!!!!! Aint (and yes i sd Aint) no rb in the 2nd round even compares to Elliott my man lolololololol Not 1

With Gurley coming off an injury, Zeke would have gone first. Next year, the RB position is loaded, so probably not.

I agree that a defensive end is a harder position to find superior talent at, and that the salary cap number for defensive ends is higher, on average than running backs. Those are really great points, but how does overdrafting a defensive end and wasting the pick do us any good? Aren't there exceptions to every rule? If Zeke is graded out to be the best player in this draft and gives your team the best chance of winning, shouldn't that be a better barometer about who should be chosen rather than some arbitrary theory in a vacuum?

I would say that it is generally a poor allocation of cap and resources to select a punter or kicker number one overall. Thats why you don't see it done. However, lets say that you graded the players and the draft class sucked so bad that you knew no one in the entire class could help your team (except a punter or kicker) wouldn't you first try to trade completely out of the draft, or select the punter or kicker if they could help you?

There really are only general theories in the draft. What must dictate what you do is what talented players are available to help you. That is really all that matters, or should matter.

With no QB, none of them will. Just like the 3 first round talents they added last year didn't make a damn bit of difference either.

But this running back Overkill nonsense is asinine.

"Won't pay one in free agency, but we'll pay one even more, and give up the #4 overall pick to do it!"

Any moron stupid enough to do that deserves the failure they'll get.

I have to agree here. If they wanted to spend this kinda money on RB why not just grab Miller?

wow. I can't imagine a trade for UP Zeke--would seem almost absurd to me--but have to admit it'd even surprise me if Dallas took him at 4.
Would not complain though. he'd be awesome behind this line and with Romo under center.

Yeah. I was surprised when i heard it and specifically naming coaches. Brugler does hang around the facility quite a bit so i'm assuming he has decent contacts.

Like the saying goes running backs win championships. So unless the scouts are evaluating needs this must mean they think Ramsey and Bosa are better talents. If so, Garrett needs to practice what he preaches and stick to the board.

I hope the people saying dont take a RB at 4 i hope yall are saying the same thing with next years RB draft class cause you know that narrative is gonna change next year right?

so if Elliott was in that 2017 draft class where would he be ranked like 2 or 3 (based on overal skill set or your style or type of rb for your squad) rb in the class? ive already made my case 4 Zeke numerous of times( thinking BIG Picture) on this forum and how he helps the overall team in all 3 phases of the football game like you know the ones they actually play and stratagize 4 on Sundays

and at 4 you dont think that type of talent (Zeke) behind this OLIne, (who's in there Prime), with a complete back not just a rb in 2nd round who cant even convert a 3rd and 2 conistantly that doesnt have near the type of traits/talent at the rb position that doesnt come of the field and we have the formula that works for thisIs team not Green Bay or the Patriots etc but this squad and talent

we seen it work in 2014 the less he throws the better he his because he can pick and choose when he wants to throw more often than not and keeps him healthy the boy loves to block

And when its all on Romo all the time every game to make the play then we have to live and die with whatever happens because it can go either way and a Romo fan

but when he have that dog back there to where no matter what we have faith he gonna make something happen like Dez almost, just his ability alone will win certain situations he is suppose to lose make something out of nothing

Zeke he can create his lane and holes and you can keep handing it to him control that clock and he can actually score tds for long distances you know too

I just dont understand how folks cant see the formula that works for us Dallas we have thebest Oline the rest of the NFL dont and imediate impact player at rb will only make us better but who am i im just like to see my team win consistantly but i dont want to repeat myself

He carried his team to a national Championship with the 3rd string QB and ran through Alabama in the process which is the closes youll get to an NFL calibor college team ijs that got to count for something for us wanting to get Jerry and the Cowboys another Super bowl

Thats the dumbest thing. Let's ask the offensive coaches that are on the hot seat who they want. Oh a RB and WR early? You don't say.

Problem is, I don't think anyone is on the hot seat. I think Garrett could go 1-15 with Romo playing all the games and still have a job in 2017.

Because the "formula" that worked in 2014 didn't involve a Top 5 drafted TB running behind this OL.

The "formula" would seem to be build the best OL you can and then you don't have to invest a high value pick in a TB to get high production. This OL turned a 3rd round TB who people weren't sure could be a lead back in Murray into the league's leading rusher. Then the following year, they took a bum in McFadden and turned him into a 1,000 yard rusher in like 12 games and did so without any shred of a passing game with Romo out and Bryant basically useless for most of the year.

The "formula" was invest a ton of assets into building a dominant OL so then you wouldn't have to spend a ton of assets on a TB, a position that the front office believes has a short shelf life. So in taking Elliott at 4, the front office has clearly thrown aside their philosophy and couple that with some of their missteps in free agency and you really wonder if they have a clue how to really build this team. If anything, taking Elliott at 4 smacks of pure panic because they feel their hands are tied.

It's the question that none of the 'must draft Zeke!' crowd can answer.

Some have answered it. And it goes something like how Miller can't hold Elliott's jock. Elliott is the greatest runner ever. He's going to run for 2,000 yards every single year behind this OL.
