I thought the panthers made a bold move with norman would help if the cowboys would make a bold move sometimes and cut duds from the team maybe others would think differently if there was consequences for your actions.

I agree. If players know that a failed drug test means losing a career that relatively few people on earth get the chance at I think there would be a lot fewer failed test.

we likely won't get confirmation until it's announced, but I'm pretty sure that an amphetamines positive test in the offseason is considered a drug, but during the season, a PED

Oh yes you're probably right about that, I remember this coming up with the Scandrick situation last year (since 'molly' is an amphetamine derivative). Not sure if that was for MDMA/molly in particular, or the entire amphetamine class (which is mind-numbingly huge BTW).

I agree evidently many are just stupid or think they are somehow above the rules. You don't have to agree with rules you do however have to abide by them and in return the NFL is an opportunity to make more money than you could ever make even with a degree.

This this is good. We can restructure all the contracts of our DL and pay them in Doritos.

Yup.

Adderall (l- & d-amphetamine salts combo), Dexedrine (d-amphetamine), and even pharmaceutical methamphetamine (Desoxyn).

Each are primarily prescribed for ADHD (attention deficit hyperactivity disorder), with occasional scripts given for obesity and narcolepsy.

Source: I have ADHD :p

Is there any official confirmation that its adderall? Normally the testing body doesn't make any statement on the exact drug that was taken. Im not saying its the case here, but publicists often like to give the impression that the positive is as a result of something innocuous.

Testing positive for cocaine or adderrall...I would go with adderall too:D

Anyone know if this guy is credible? Seems to think that Lawrance will win the apeal and Cowboys are not too concerned.

Please..please...please....please...please...please be true. Makes sense since the NFL and the Cowboys have not had any official news on this.

Am I wrong, or when Gregory was suspended it was confirmed and general knowledge from the word go. This one feels very different.

I hope it does as well, but at the end of the day it tells me that we have two DEs that we can't really count on...unless this is some sort of false positive.

I hate to be a wet blanket, but even if D-Law wins his appeal, he's still recovering from the same kind of back surgery Tony Romo had in 2013.

So our need at DE really doesn't change.

It's banned and he knows better than take a banned substance....

BUT

How can the league actually consider Adderrall a performance enhancing drug?
Anyone who has ever taken Adderrall will tell you that it doesn't enhance performance any more than a strong cup of coffee and a Sudafed enhances performance.

I doubt you'd find anyone who's taken adderall that would say that. The very fact that players are using adderall when they could choose caffeine should tell you that the effects are nowhere near the same.

It's goofy that the NFL puts Adderrall in the same category as Anabolic Steroids and HGH. Like another poster said it's commonly prescribed for Attention deficit disorder. The players association needs to stand up for its players. The leagues drug policy is only hurting its own image publicly over misclassifying drugs.

Just because it has a medical application doesn't mean that it can't be abused, or that it's use doesn't impart benefits. Testosterone is commonly prescribed and human growth hormone is prescribed for certain conditions. Should these also be reexamined? Of course not because we know that their use undoubtedly yields benefits that otherwise could not be gained.

For adderall, the benefit is a heightened alertness, improved concentration, and decreased mental fatigue. If you can't see how being more attentive and alert while also being less fatigued in the 4th quarter might yield improved performance then I don't know what to tell you.

The players association doesn't need to do anything on this front for it's players because they've already secured a process by which players can use banned substances so long as the player has a legitimate medical need. What more is needed?

I thought they changed the way this drug was classified? Orlando Scnadrick tested positive and was supposed to be suspended 4 games, then the NFLPA and the NFL reached some kind of settlement and his suspension was reduced to two games and I thought going forward it was going to be treated as a drug, not performance enhancing? Maybe this just isn't his first positive test?

Someone posted earlier that positive tests outside of the season are not subject to PED punishment, but rather substance abuse rules.

In that case, it looks like Scandrick had a 4 game penalty for PED use and the agreement between the league and the PA occurred while he was missing games. As soon as they reclassified out-of-competition use, Scandrick was reinstated as it would only be his 1st substance abuse offense.

This kind of sheds some light on the issue at hand. Supposedly Lawrence was notified in February, which (just assuming the results and actions aren't instantaneous) could be considered "in competition" as the offseason would have not officially have started until after the Superbowl. He could have tested positive in the final couple weeks of the season or final weeks of January and be considered for PED punishment if the deadline runs all the way to the Superbowl. This is probably the best case scenario because it would be a 1-off positive test.

The alternative is that he was deemed to be "out of competition" and this would be the worst case scenario because it would mean he has all the prior positive tests that Gregory does.

This is too many suspensions. At some point the NFL will realize these constant suspensions are shedding light on exactly what they don't want the public to know.. the fact that half of these players are not the type of people you would want to associate with in the real world.
