My thoughts on the draft

NO matter what they do the team is going to move the ball on them and is going to kill that clock with any kind of lead. That absolutely helps the defense

I like that thought. Yes, the defense can and will benefit by the 3-headed clock-eating machine of Zeki, Morris and McFadden.

Thanks for write-up

As for the Denver trade....Seattle wanted a 1st round pick THIS year

Anyway, a 2017 1st rounder is not worth the same as a border line 1st rounder (pick 34) in 2016.
In other words, if Dallas offered a 2017 1st and a 2016 3rd, that is certainly not going to trump Denver's 2016 1st and 3rd.

Peter King said we offered a 2cnd and fourth to Seattle, they wanted a 2cnd and 3rd but Stephen did not want to give up the third.

Seattle took the 1st and 3rd of Denver after we talked with them about the 2cnd and fourth.

The season would be forfeit if he is the backup and Tony goes down for an extended period. Neither he nor Moore can carry this team if Tony goes down.

I still think the Cowboys need to secure a legitimate backup QB before the season begins.

:hammer:

Yeah, that's what I heard too.
The Denver 1st and 3rd won out, but a Dallas high 2nd and high 3rd may have done it. It's worth more value chart wise by nearly 100
Seattle did want the 5th year option but not sure how much value they placed on it.

I really dont think we are going to see much of McFadden and Morris. Zeke is 20 yrs old and the type of back you leave on the field.

Who are all of these DT's we have that will keep Collins off of the field?

T Crawford
Thornton
Irving
Sometimes J Crawford
??

Are you suggesting that Terrell McMclain or Casey Walker will keep Collins from getting on the field? Because I highly doubt that

Agreed.

I don't see Irving stopping the progress of Collins.

I think Irving will play behind Thornton.

Collins will play behind Tyrone Crawford.

Think they just wanted a RD1 pick i wouldve even thrown leary in there. SEA wanted OL

No, they wanted a younger player without degenerative knees and a 5th year option. He's also a tackle, not a guard like Leary.

The trade is what it is. Imagine getting Paxton Lynch - a guy who will not contribute to the success of the team in the near future or possibly at all - and then not picking again until Day 3.

As much as I like the idea of getting a back up there is really nothing out there. If we are going to suck regardless just let the rook get the experience.

I disagree with Dak. I have watched him a lot at MSU. He is a guy that can be a good back up and spot play and win some games. But he is not the long term answer, unless he improves a tremendous amount. I also don't think the Cowboys see him as the long term answer, he was 5th on their list of QBs. He has some skills and some good pocket presence, but not an NFL quality starter material. I hope he can develop into more than I see but at this point, his ceiling to me is a back up. But that is ok with a 4th round pick.

See the A&M game.... It's there...... All the throws
Impressive as game since Tebow lit up TCU in the bowl game

It can happen

I have watched just about every game he has played at State. He flashes but if he was more consistent in his game and techniques he would have been a 1st round pick. He can be good enough in spots but to be elite or even good at the nfl level he has to bring it every week against the best players in the world. He has potential but not sure he will ever be more than a good back up. And that would be good for a 4th round pick.

Honestly he's a bit more like Romo than some think.......protect the middle & he's damn good, pressure up the middle & he panics.

He can feel the outside & do great things if the middle protection is clean...... Once it heats up in the middle though, hold on

One of the difficulties in grading Prescott is that his offensive line was just awful. "Clean pockets" were few and far between and his snaps were all-over the place, which certainly affected his game. Does that make him a sure-shot starter in the NFL? Nope. But let's see what he can do in a situation where he's operating behind a good line and is receiving his snaps in the same spot time after time.

Good stuff Latin. I'm still miffed about Smith and Prescott. I get that Smith is a special talent but with Spence on the board and the need at DE I would have liked Spence there. The kid was clean for over two years and there is a nice write up on him in a recent sports illustrated article. However the consensus is still character issues. Ok then why take a QB with character issues then with an obvious drinking problem. I've moved on and overall felt this was a good draft for now and the future.

Has Jason Jones signed anywhere, and does anyone think there is a chance DLaw wind his appeal?

We will see in 3 yrs or so how the draft was and I'm not sure either of the top 2 picks I would have made. But I get why they were made. Zeke was the safest bet and will thrive behind this line. Smith is a super talent and while there is no instant gratification the talent is super
A couple of my favorites are Collins and tapper. Collins will be part of the rotation at DT immediately and at least the first 4 games Crawford will slide outside. Collins will get a lot of reps this year and tapper is a very talented guy who because of the suspension will get reps early

Oh, how wrong you are, bloke!
Blimey, Jason (and rightfully so) will want to get as much as possible out of each! Morris will bang away and soften the center and right side of the line. Elliott will tear off 10- and 15-yarders on a regular basis and will rest when McFadden comes in.
I really am optimistic about this backfield, mate!
