ESPN’s NFL coverage will look dramatically different next year. Our site already reported that Mike Ditka is out from his Countdown gig (though will remain with the network in an emeritus role), and that Matt Hasselbeck and Charles Woodson are on their way in.

Trent Dilfer has also been widely reported to be leaving Bristol. In addition to this, The Big Lead has learned that Cris Carter and Ray Lewis are also expected to be on their way out, and that Randy Moss is expected to be on his way in. Moss spent last season at Fox Sports, appearing on the pre pre show that pitted him in debates with Colin Cowherd.

No Ditka

I would consider all of those changes to be upgrades,,, who knows, maybe I'll like them enough to start watching ESPN again.

Ditkas starting to get up there in age and it shows. I know I wouldn't have wanted to be the one to tell him he's out though

I feel like there's more behind this grand exodus than we know. With Tirico, Skip Bayless, and et al all leaving in some form I can only theorize that either A) there's been a major organizational change at ESPN which the guys who left of their own Accord didn't agree with and the guys who got fired didn't fit in with or B) there's been some serious pay cuts due to Fox sports gaining in viewership. Also the Longhorn Network is a massive failure which cost ESPN $300 million over ten years (I think it's 10) so they have to make up ground somewhere.

Again, these are just my theories as to what is going on at ESPN.

Those guys are several generations old as far as the current game and how its played.

I expect Moose and Aikman to be phased out as well as Jimmy Johnson and Irvin.

Those guys had careers 20+ years ago.

Thats ancient in media years.

It's like when a ship is sinking, you have to get rid of excess weight.

Cable TV in general is suffering with the number of cord cutters continually rising. Cable makes 2/3s of their money with subscriptions, with that dwindling ESPN and every other major network are beginning to suffer.

if tom Jackson and chris berman are still on espn I will not watch them. I cannot stand those two guys they are biggest haters on all of the sportsnetworks.

I don't hate them but they ran their course a long time ago. They need new hosts and commentators and give the whole thing a fresh face.

I wish they would let Wingo host the morning and highlight show.

This may go down as the "meh" heard around the world...

it's not even that...cable is a dying industry. I'm not saying it's where newspapers are, but it will be one day

It seems kind of pointless to replace the middle if you're going to keep the two bookends holding that in place there. The sacred cows need to go as well to make this work.
