Lynch had 758 completions on 1205 attempts for 62.9% completion rate and 7.36 yards per attempt. He had 8,863 yards passing with 59 TDs and 23 INTs. He ran the ball 288 times for 687 yards with a 2.4 yards per avg with 17 rushing TDs.

Prescott had 734 completions on 1169 attempts for 62.8% completion rate and 8.02 yards per attempt. He had 9,376 yards passing with 70 TDs and 23 INTs. He ran the ball 536 times for 2,521 yards with a 4.7 yards per avg with 41 rushing TDs. Also, he had 4 receptions for 88 yards with 3 TDs.

Prescott played in a much tougher conference having to face LSU, Alabama, Auburn, Texas A&M, Ole Miss, etc every year. I'm thinking that we did pretty good by not trading up and giving our 2nd and 3rd round picks away for Lynch when we may have gotten a more dynamic player at the end of the 4th round in Prescott.

I like Lynch to an extent and Prescott as well. Lynch I've said my piece about him. He is more of a project than even Prescott but his size and arm power (ATM) is definitely worth developing and getting excited about. When we talk about smarts I believe we got the best of the two. However, the one I'm rooting for is on our team.

I am no expert and I am just a fan who watches football. I see lynch as a better passer then Prescott. I watched a lot of Prescott games on tv and he really never excited me to think that he is a franchise qb in the nfl. I hope he plays well for us I just do not see our next starting qb. lynch throws the ball better and with great coaching I think he has a great chance to be a good qb for the broncos.

Whether Prescott ends up being a starter in the future or not, we were able to stop a Jerry move by trading away the top of the draft for one guy that isn't a game-changer from Day 1.

Good stuff.

Good post! I've been saying this exact same thing :)

I think Prescott is the bigger project and it's not even close. Both played in a spread system, but Lynch at least would occasionally have to go through progressions. It seems Prescott will take off running after two progressions, at best. Lots of times, he'll run if the primary option isn't open.

Dak Prescott also played with by far the worst offensive line in the SEC and played in the SEC West, with the best defensive front 7s in the conference.

Both are project players, but I'm tired of people acting like Dak Prescott can't play. But, such is life on message boards where people care about the salary/college film of practice squad players let alone a draft pick.

I guess my thing with Prescott is what skills of his translate to the NFL. His mobility is really about it, which isn't as fast as Aaron Rogers, Russell Wilson, Andrew Luck, Rothlisberger, Cam Newton and most other elite QBs who are mobile. I think his arm is strong enough and while there are questions on it, I think that can be fixed with proper mechanics. Accuracy is poor and I think he's significantly behind Lynch when it comes to running a pro style offense and working through progressions.

I think arm "strength" is way overrated in terms of predicting success in the NFL. Scouts love it and it's become a talking point so everyone parrots the mantra "he can make all the throws".
What does seem to matter is the time from recognition/decision to ball release. Very few even average NFL qbs have a slow time between decision and release.

I have no idea whether lynch or dak will ever make it, but lynch seems destined to bust unless he solves that windup. Of course, going to Denver where 3 and outs are almost a victory will serve him well.

yap agreed, I see Prescott as a reliable back next year.
FO saw Lynch as the future however.
I am glad we didn't spend the extra picks to move up

That is true. But if Prescott isn't the answer you get to gut two years draft for the next guy. Better be praying presscott is the future

I just thank goodness that Denver came along and saved Jerry from himself. Or more precisely, Stephen wouldn't allow Jerry to mortgage this draft for Lynch.
I might be in the minority but I think Prescott has a fairly good shot at becoming at least a serviceable NFL QB. His intangibles are off the charts. IMO, it is smarts, leadership, charisma, etc. that play as big a part as arm strength when it comes to being a successful NFL QB.

The guy has "it" and the entire team at MS State felt it. That team followed Dak to victories that it had no business winning. Throw in that he is tough, mobile, and can really hurt teams when he scrambles and I don't know why anyone doesn't at least give Dak a chance at growing under Romo's mentoring and becoming a good player.

IMO, Prescott has a whole lot going for him. His situation is close to ideal and there are plenty of raw tools to work with there. With his natural ability to get the team behind him and to rally them to wins they never should have had... he is a very worthwhile late 4th round pick.

It wouldn't matter what I think of Lynch, if my scouting department believes he's the guy, and they wouldn't have been looking to move back in to the 1st round if they didn't, then the trade needed to be made. Trust the scouts, no price is too big for that player.

So, yeah....You can have Smith and Collins if I'm getting my franchise QB of the future. Which is the intel I'm operating with by the guys I pay to know these prospects front to back.

Lynch is trash. Was happy to see Denver take him. We'll be seeing Denver take another QB in a couple years.

Tebow motivated the Florida Gators and even got a professional football team to jump on his bandwagon.
