People say we need a immediate defensive started with thst 2nd round pick but who was there? Spence? Chances are no one as take there makes an immediate impact:

For me it's not about immediate impact. You make great picks like Martin and Fredrick and Jones. You think the team is heading in the right direction. But then you hear about wanting to take Manziel and throwing away picks like for Mo.. Stick to the course. Bring in solid football players not splash players.

That's what they have been doing though. They should take inferior prospects because they are less of a splash?

Wouldn't have surprised me either if another team had drafted him in round 2 but it would have been a team that didn't have the pressing need for an immediate defensive starter. With all the holes the Cowboys have defensively they can't afford to gamble a premium pick and wait on a player hoping they can recover from a serious knee injury.

It is what it is.

5 years from now it could look like a huge busted pick or perhaps the best pick of the "Garret-era".

I can see the merit of selected a "ready" player at the same spot... But I understand the gamble.

The only reason anyone is down on the Jaylon pick is because he has no timetable for returning, and there were a lot of people saying there was a chance he'd never play again.

It's not crazy that people question the pick.

If they'd taken Lynch in the 2nd everybody would be talking about what a great pick he was...... except he wouldn't see the field this year either. What's the hurry?

Elliot is for now; Smith is for later....

I didn't see anyone still on the board at 34 that I was excited about as an impact guy this year, so I'm fine waiting on him till next year. Overall, I like our draft; I'm almost 60, so I tend to take the long term view with rookies rather than expecting much from them in year one anyway.

Even if one of the DEs we liked hadn't been selected, history tells us it would have been year two or three before they contributed significantly.

That's the other side of the coin. After the two defensive-ends came off the board right before the Cowboys' pick, I wasn't thrilled with what was left. The best safety was gone, a bunch of corners were gone (many of those reaches IMO), the linebackers outside of Smith and Myles weren't exciting. It wasn't a great spot for selecting a defensive player. There were some #1 DT's that could have been taken, but the Cowboys weren't going there.

I find it comical that posters are behind this pick now, but they would have rioted if you told them that Smith would be the second round pick the day before the draft. He was not even in the conversation as the second round pick. A few posters said they would take a chance on him with a late round pick, but nobody had expectations of him playing this season. Now they are starting a countdown with the hopes that an inch a month is going to happen.

At this stage, the pick is what it is.

Did I like it? Of course not. But I could rationalize it due to the sheer talent.

This was not Bruce Carter.

I see a lot of people posting their laments about taking this pick. So if you married and found out your new wife was a shrew, cheater and spend thrift would you sit around and whine or divorce her?

Well, here's your chance. I understand the Jags are rebuilding and looking for new fans.

Sheesh, it's done. And if he turns out to be greatness, you won't admit your lack of faith now. If he fails, none of us will hear the end of it.

It's there a thread where Romo isn't the best player ever in the league for you to post in?

So as a fan you not allowed to criticize a decision. Hell I love my son but he makes bonehead decisions all the time. Does that mean I can trade up for a new one?

Then be very very specific on the criticism. And who was responsible.

That is completely fair.
