For what it's worth...

SAN DIEGO -- San Diego Chargers rookie defensive end Joey Bosa did not report to the first day of the team's mandatory minicamp on Tuesday because of an apparent contract dispute.

The Ohio State product is one of five first-round selections from this year's draft that remain unsigned. Bosa also did not attend Thursday's final day of organized team activities last week.

The Chargers will hold a three-day minicamp that concludes on Thursday. Bosa cannot be fined for missing minicamp because he currently is not under contract.

Bosa is the No. 3 selection overall and first nonquarterback picked in this year's draft, and the main issue appears to be offset language. Bosa's camp wants it left out of his contract, according to the San Diego Union-Tribune.

Offset language allows teams to recapture guaranteed money if a player is released and signs with another team.

"Offset language allows teams to recapture guaranteed money if a player is released and signs with another team."

Sounds like a sleazy lawyer trick to me, a way to make "guaranteed money" not actually mean "guaranteed money."

It doesn't take money away from the player. It makes it where the player doesn't double dip. Whatever he makes with the 2nd team subtracts from the guaranteed money that was promised.

Nice to see that even with the new CBA apportioning system, the Chargers still find ways to lowball their players that lead to holdouts.

Sounds complicated. I wonder if clauses like that could have prevented the chicanery that Ratliff and Orton pulled.

If the player is given guaranteed money they he should still get it regardless if he is cut.

Why would anyone sign that? Is that standard language in contracts?

I get it if there is something where the player is at fault, but outright released seems weird.

Yep. There are clauses for stuff like that. But a player being released for performance or salary cap issues should not be a reason a player loses money.

Yep, made the right choice, or we would be having mega threads on a hold out and roids. Rather warranted or not.

How is this an issue? I thought the cba created the rookie salary/wage scale? Doesn't that include a streamlined contract and guarantee salary amount based at the spot you were taken in the draft?

lol, you can just look at him and tell he is a dumb***.

If I'm I'm the Chargers, I let him holdout if he wants to hold out over something stupid like that.

There is no way in hell I would have drafted this kid even within the top 10 picks.

Read what speed wrote. That should clarify what the issue is. Bosa is a douchebag.
