Does anyone else find it mind-numbing that we're now heading into YEAR FOUR of this defensive scheme and this is the best our front office has been able to come up with?!

For a defensive coordinator who's predicating his entire gameplan around creating pressure on the QB, this is simply unacceptable.

It is not just exclusively the front office. Marinelli's hands are not clean either. He is the one who has been complicit with all the moves. If the picks are made by committee consensus as some would like to believe, he is part of the committee.

The man had Nick Hayden starting unopposed for three seasons. And he liked it.

It's definitely mind-numbing with how things have turned out.

They've signed free agents such as Melton & Hardy...spent 2 picks on Lawrence...took a chance on Gregory who was largely viewed as a top 15 talent, etc.

They've certainly had more success in building the O-Line, while rolling the dice more on the D-Line & defense (to include McClain at LB, signing Carr to a terrible contract, etc).

Hopefully, at least one or two of the aforementioned players in the title can step up.

It sucks, but that's they way things work out sometimes. Some bad draft picks, some bad circumstances, and some opportunities not taken. Could have turned out to be a really nice defense if everything went our way, but you just can't predict with certainty what going to happen.

What I'm interested in is where we go from here. Freeney is sitting out there. Maybe some trades can be made. Perhaps some camp cuts from other teams. We need to do something.

Bright side is our offense should be very good. D-Law will return to the rotation after game 4 and hopefully pick up where he left off. The interior should be better, secondary too. Who knows, maybe some of the young guys will impress at DE.

Its not like our passrush was hinging around Gregory, though he would have been nice to have in rotation. I still have us winning the East, though this defense will need to step up if we're going to make any noise in the post season.

That's not actually the best the front office has come up with, to be fair. It's naming a bunch of back-roster guys on the DL and the Mayowa, who was a value FA signing. Crawford, Thornton, Lawrence are all legit starters. And as back-roster roll players go, some of those guys aren't all that bad.
What we're missing is a legitimate rush-end. And we're missing that because the guy we took a chance on messed the bed today.

They're not back roster guys, this is what's available to roll out at DE the first month of the season.

Of course they have. It is one of the easier positons to draft in comparison to most and they have spent three first round choices and basically got another one for next to nothing by signing Collins. The degree of difficulty is not nearly that difficult.

The statement was meant in the 'obvious' context. Pass rushers are certainly harder to find...even in the 1st. As I've mentioned, the two top rookie sack leaders from last season were a 2nd round pick (Preston Smith...8 sacks), and a later 3rd round pick (Danielle Hunter...6 sacks).

This may seem irrelevant but I don't see how Lawrence's suspension was upheld. He took amphetamines and he didn't seem to be aware of the fact that it would lead to this. He has matured and it doesn't seem like he did it out of stupidity.

A lot of raw talent there, but were definitely rolling the dice through the first 4 weeks. However, I do feel good about the interior of the line and our ability to generate more pentration which should help whoever is on the edge. Once Lawrence gets back 3/4 of the line should be set so I dont think the situation is as dire as we think. We got through 2014 ok with Mincey and Selvie as our starters and I would argue Jack Crawford, Mayowa, Russell, Irving, and Tapper have better physical tools than both those players though unproven. It would still be helpful to bring in more experience, but we'll see.

If generating no pressure whatsoever on a gimp qb is getting by OK..then Yeah...

Winning 12 games and winning 1 playoff game isn't a successful season for this core anymore

Ah, I see what you were saying. Yep, they're going to split the rush end snaps between them.

maybe towards the end of preseason if the guys we have do not play well or get hurt the cowboys can pick up one or two young defensive ends from other teams either though trade or waviers.

Thornton.
