Mayowa, Russell, Tapper, Irving

If generating no pressure whatsoever on a gimp qb is getting by OK..then Yeah...

Winning 12 games and winning 1 playoff game isn't a successful season for this core anymore

Mayowa, Russell, Tapper and Irving were not on that team against GB 2 years ago so it's unfair to say they couldn't get to Rodgers and have only won 1 playoff game

Yeah..it's also unfair to say they'd be as good as the guys we had...mincey led the team in sacks...let's see if any of these guys can do that

Exactly
Do the fans really expect the team to hire a real GM who has a plan and can evaluate talent?

This team is just so disapointing right now.

We have such a talented offensive group but skipping free agency and getting cute in the draft has gutted our defense.

I wish there was a trade to be made.

We are due for a player like one of these guys to step and be something more than a jag.

I don't think it will happen but I can hope.

Does anyone else find it mind-numbing that we're now heading into YEAR FOUR of this defensive scheme and this is the best our front office has been able to come up with?!

For a defensive coordinator who's predicating his entire gameplan around creating pressure on the QB, this is simply unacceptable.

I see a nickname : MR IT

These 4 have 2 career sacks between the lot of them and 2 are later round rookies, who historically almost never have a real impact in their first season.

I can't imagine how anyone can make the argument that game would have been different with this list of complete inexperience on the field.

And the flipside to that is you just listed 4 guys who likely will never be much more than JAGs. Not sure why people keep listing these guys as if they are superstars in waiting. We'll be lucky if one develops into a stud and one develops into a serviceable player.

I hope all four become studs but it's unlikely and the reality is that the DE spot right now for the Cowboys is in a precarious situation.

Let's put it another way. If the new coaching staff in Philly ran out Russell, Mayowa, Tapper and Irving as their DE rotation to start the season, there is not a shred of doubt in my mind there would be fans here talking about what an embarrassment that is and how Philly would lack any credible DE talent.

I agree the pass rush held us back in 2014 as we watched Rodgers stand in the pocket virtually untouched. However, I go back to a better interior line which is critical in generating edge pressure and not allowing the QB to stepup. Were far from a good dline, but many teams have seen unknown pass rushers step up and come out of no where. Hopefully were that fortunate this season, but until then maybe we should kick the tires with an aging veteran that could atleast add experience.

Hasselback was on ESPN and said no one on set could name our starting DL for Week 1

My guess is.... Russell....TCrawford....Thornton....Mayowa

Of course they have. It is one of the easier positons to draft in comparison to most and they have spent three first round choices and basically got another one for next to nothing by signing Collins. The degree of difficulty is not nearly that difficult.

That's not even close to being true. Do you know how many 1st round linemen don't pan out? Just using 3 picks on the oline doesn't give you a good oline they still have to pan out. There are several teams in the league right now that have used several 1st rounders on linemen and they undeperformed and were let go. The Steelers come to mind off the top of my head.

Maybe they should call NASA?

More like Larry, Curly, Moe, and Shemp.

Just kidding I have total faith in Coach M and the Dallas FO.

Watching our DEs to start the season...........

And that is not even close to what I was saying.

If you want to draft safer in the first round, you are far better off taking an OL. In the past seven drafts, only a handful were cut or allowed to leave in free agency (Carpenter, Carimi, Sherrod, Watkins, Cooper and Okung).

Of the OL first rounders the overwhelming majority are still with their original teams.

You won't find a better recent success rate.

OL have much lower bust ratio than QBs, WRs, CBs, DLs etc.

There are several teams in the league right now that have used several 1st rounders on linemen and they undeperformed and were let go.

Like whom?

The Steelers come to mind off the top of my head.

They have drafted two OL in the first round in the past decade, Maurkice Pouncey and David DeCastro. Both have made Pro Bowls and neither has been cut. Please don't waste anyone's time if you cannot even do proper research.

It sucks, but that's they way things work out sometimes. Some bad draft picks, some bad circumstances, and some opportunities not taken. Could have turned out to be a really nice defense if everything went our way, but you just can't predict with certainty what going to happen.

What I'm interested in is where we go from here. Freeney is sitting out there. Maybe some trades can be made. Perhaps some camp cuts from other teams. We need to do something.

Bright side is our offense should be very good. D-Law will return to the rotation after game 4 and hopefully pick up where he left off. The interior should be better, secondary too. Who knows, maybe some of the young guys will impress at DE.

Its not like our passrush was hinging around Gregory, though he would have been nice to have in rotation. I still have us winning the East, though this defense will need to step up if we're going to make any noise in the post season.

Take your completely reasonable and realist view right the heck out of this thread, friend!

No time for that right now.

More guys will be signed. Those guys are out and we haven't even factored in injuries. They may stink, and be 20 something (McClay), but will see.

If we signed Hardy and Freeny today however I would feel better. But we know that won't happen.
