Ghostbusters: A waste of time and money

God I hate remakes... I'm down with prequels and sequels but remakes... most of them are just mindless.

"Planet of the Apes"
"Halloween"
"Friday the 13th"
"Texas Chainsaw"
"Evil Dead"
"Dawn of the Dead"
"Poltergeist"

Of that list Texas Chainsaw was the most entertaining.

There was a "Night of the Living Dead" remake done in 1990 that was pretty good.

I agree with this. Completely.

Coming soon.

More junk

Update...

"Two weeks after its release, Ghostbusters has yet to make back its production budget."
(Entertainment.ie‎)

Budget
$144 million
Box office
$135.4 million

(Also, this isn't including promotional costs too. Amazing they are still planning a sequel.)

After its opening weekend, Sony's president of worldwide distribution, Rory Bruer, told The Wrap that "while nothing has been officially announced, there's no doubt in my mind a sequel will happen." He also said that Ghostbusters is expected to become an important Sony franchise.

Agreed 100%

I had to read over and over again over the years to figure out what the heck went on at the end of planet of the apes remake(Tim burton) version. The recent remake fooled me with trailer. Apes jumping down in the atrium... I was like whoahhhh... Then ... I saw it...

You don't think they'll clear the last few millions in a few days/weeks?

They're going to party like it's 1984 .. Straight-to-Netflix style :)

I heard from a couple of reviewers I trust that there were some good things about this, they were wrong. Everything was horrible and it was so long. Took two attempts to get through. I heard it so much I started to think it would be better then Ghostbusters 2, it's not, not even close. F this movie.

Quite honestly, a lot was made of the all female cast, but it would not have mattered to me if it were an all male cast or even if Bill Murray had a major role in it. I absolutely detest remakes of former blockbuster movies. It's one thing to remake a movie that sucked long ago, but trying to remake movies that were extremely successful, especially ones that turned out surprisingly so and developed a critical mass following, is nothing more than a money grab and is usually tainted by grown up Twilight-er like stars or it relies heavily on simple-minded and/or vulgar humor and comedy here and there to generate movie trailer bait.

Bill Murray's Ghost Busters, Will Smith's Independence Day, Christian Bale's Batman, Tobey Maguire's Spiderman, Mel Gibson's Mad Max, Jurassic Park, Ben Hur, etc. were not all necessarily great movies, but they brought something extra to the moment they were released that will never be duplicated. Today's generation will have their own movies that to do that, but they will be much less common because we suffer from media overload now where we starved for it in the past.

500? Where's that number from? If accurate, yea they won't, but where is it from?
Wikipedia says they have like a $140 mill budget. I would assume marketing is at least that if not 1.5 times that. So imo, they would have to hit $280-$350 to break even.

General rule is (production budget + marketing) * 2. It's also what the director stated in this case. The budget was $144 million. Marketing is estimated near $100 million.

You have to realize that studios do not get all of the box office returns. The theaters get a percentage, and that % increases the longer it is in theaters. Studios also get a smaller % of foreign box office than they do from domestic.

I wouldn't have seen this even if they brought the original cast back somehow.

There are people that grew up huge Ghostbusters fans, it was just never my thing.

This is a movie I have absolutely no interest in seeing....even if Im incredibly bored one night, there's always King of the Hill or South Park re-runs lol.....

Hmm... Christian Bale's Batman? Tobey Maguire's Spiderman? Some surprises in your list.

I went and saw it. Its pretty funny. I don't let people's opinions on movies sway whether I'll see it or not.

I saw Absolutely Fabulous the movie yesterday, and it was HILARIOUS.

An all female cast is as bad as making Rhonda Rousey "Dalton" in the Roadhouse remake.

If that gets back to Hollywood and they make it, I'm holding you personally responsible...
