NFL says no to Arm in Arm decal on Cowboys helmet

This is no surprise. If Goodell can not profit off of it, it's not allowed. As evidenced by all the players who have tried this same thing.

But don't worry, he will sell all the useless pink merchandise every year to make even more money!

It's unfortunate, but you can see where the league does have to draw a line on these types of things. As Jerry said, there are a bunch of worthy causes and as a league they do have to be careful about precedents.

Not to mention that it's a very worthy cause but it's also at the center of a fairly incendiary topic that you can be sure the NFL doesn't want to find itself in the middle of if it flares up in-season, and it easily could.

If the Cowboys were to make a statement like that they could offend some and even hurt thier feelings. This would be a poor reflection on the NFL.

It's the NFL...and it's the best way for the league to straddle the line on all kinds of issues, not just hot button issues.

Idgit makes a good point, but it just doesn't seem right that the league said no to honoring fallen officers. They can say no to frivolous requests in the future, but this one seems like a power trip by the league office.

I don't think its about offending anyone, just opens the floodgates for teams to put stickers for any and all causes

I sincerely agree with that take, but it's strange the league turns around and makes/allows its teams to wear pink in honor breast cancer awareness.

There just doesn't seem to be any rhyme or reason.

But they'll pay Beyonce to do a Super Bowl halftime show where she and her dancers are dressed as black panthers and promoted support for the Black Lives Matter movement.

I don't see the problem. If they allowed the Cowboys to wear this sticker, while the other teams were not, they set precedence. Where do they draw the line. Pretty hard to then say no to anything else a team might want to add to the uniform. Once the NFL allows this, it won't be long before uniforms start looking like NASCAR.

There are plenty of reasons to ***** at Goodell and the NFL. This isn't one of them.

$$$

According to data obtained from the NFL by Darren Rovell of ESPN, the NFL “takes a 25% royalty from the wholesale price (1/2 retail), [and] donates 90% of royalty to American Cancer Society.”

In other words, for every $100 in pink merchandise sold, $12.50 goes to the NFL. Of that, $11.25 goes to the American Cancer Society (ACS) and the NFL keeps the rest. The remaining money is then divided up by the company that makes the merchandise (37.5%) and the company that sells the merchandise (50.0%), which is often the NFL and the individual teams.

Then consider that only 71.2% of money the ACS receives goes towards research and cancer programs. After everyone has taken their cut, only 8.01% of money spent on pink NFL merchandise is actually going towards cancer research (emphasis mine).
