Sturm: A Blog About Shaneil Jenkins

I agree. He definitely is playing at a level worthy of the 53 man roster. Not sure we could hide him on the PS, with how well he has been for us in two preseason games.

Like you said though, there's a numbers game at DT, and we already have 3-4 locks. (Crawford(3), Thornton(1), Collins(3) and McClain(1)).

No chance.

You cut a guy like that who has shown up on film and he'll get scooped up quick.

Disruptive DT's are at a premium and he has shown signs of that this pre-season.

With all the woe's regarding the DEs the interior of the line is looking excellent. It's too bad it gets coupled up with DEs. I don't expect RBs to have much success running up the middle and hopefully the DE's can pickup some gimme sacks due to interior pressure.

Great series of videos!

Bob's right.

Jenkins makes the 53.

No way does he make it through waivers to the practice squad.

You look at how Carolina creates pressure– It with their DT's.

Over the last few seasons the DT's of the Cowboys have done little to help the pass rush... QB's have been able to step up in the pocket with regularity.

-Melton was a bust
-Hayden had no ability to rush the passer
-Two seasons ago T Crawford was just learning the position and last season he was injured
-Last two seasons T McClain has missed big chunks of the season

The DE's have gotten little or no help from the DT's.

But this season the worm is going to turn.

I'm getting a little excited about the potential of the defense.

Now that was a fun read...and target on. Hoooah!

Rush dog depth...

Thanks for your read and work.

I wouldn't say he is a lock yet. I would say he has earned earlier snaps in preseason game # 3 after his strong performances in the first two games. When you are an undrafted free agent the pressure is constantly on to see if you hit that wall or if your plays drops a bit. There are plenty of guys who had strong preseason games, who are never heard from again. His play has been good so far, but I would not consider him already on the roster after a few weeks of good play.

His first step quickness and snap anticipation is impressive. He's also very tenacious and active. Where I would be concerned with him is when he doesn't win with his first move on a run down - I don't think he has the anchor to hold up against the run consistently. I would also like to see him get more burn against first team offensive linemen, because he's dominating the reserves that he's facing.

I would seriously consider keeping him over Terrell McClain due to McClain's persistent injury issues.

Thanks Bob!

I said after the Miami game he already made the 53.There is no way then can cut him now. I kind of wonder if this forces Collins to the 6 week PUP to start the season.
Once you come off PUP you cannot go back. He's practicing and is expected to play Thursday along with Mayowa.

For some reason the coaches love McClain, so I think he is a lock....at least for 4 games before he heads to IR.
