Sturm: A Blog About Shaneil Jenkins

This year, Crawford is the 3-tech, with Collins and Jenkins in rotation behind him. I fully expect that job to be Collins by next year. Bigger body, played that position in college. Breaking his foot will keep him a rotational player this year. Difference is Crawford was drafted to be a 3/4 DE, a run stopper who has found a home inside. That's also why moving him back out to DE would not work, he is not suited to play a 4/3 DE. This is his year to shine inside, and I do think he will be good with the 1-tech's we have beside him. But next year I expect the job to be Collins.

Good stuff there...:)

Just to give you guys an idea of how far away this defense is from being decent. Jenkins is a practice squad talent on the Super Bowl Champion Denver Broncos team, and here he makes the 53 man roster. No need to get angry. This is just a fact. No need to get excited over thinking we found something. We didn't.

Because no one from another teams PS ever contributed to another team.

No need to get angry.

Same thing can be said about other teams OLinemen compare to ours. Many starting OLinemen from other teams would be a PS guy here.
Different teams value certain positions more than others and use their resources accordingly.

Nate Newton was cut by other teams before coming to the Cowboys.
Same with:
Derek Kennard
John Gesek
Jermey Parnell

What exactly has Collins shown us? McClain can't stay healthy and look like Crawford as well. If we have too many then one of them may "pull a groin....." and be on PUP for several games. ;)

I heard he wasn't a fit for Denver. You may be right. But all he can do is play whats in front of him and he'd doing it fairly well.

The great teams always find a couple of these kind of guys.

For every Russell Maryland you gotta find your Leon Letts.

Don't use Incognito mode on your browser because then you can see it without paying. I don't want DMN to not get your money, so definitely don't do it.

His nickname is Bronco.

I wonder when that happened. Was he given that when he arrived and that's why he's playing well or was it just given to him and we can expect even more improvement?

Bronco. We-fense. Go Cowboys.

He obviously didn't fit their system. They may have been trying to peg a square in a round hole. Maybe a lot like Demarcus Ware. I do think we are a ways away from Denver's defense but I think we may be closer than you think.

Like it or not, Kyle Wilber makes it easier to keep Jenkins. He can always play DE in a pinch and (so far) has played better than Russell this preseason.

It's possible Lawrence, Irving, Mayowa, and J. Crawford are the rotation guys going into the season with Wilber as an emergency backup.

love what i've seen from him. looks like tackle has gone from weakness to strength.

Log jam at 3-tech.

Better than having a logjam at 1 tech. If pressure is not coming from the edges, then I am glad we have multiple players who can do it from the inside. Jenkins has EARNED a roster spot, can't say the same about all the other guys fighting for a spot.

That would be 10 DL by my count with Lawrence being 11 after 4 games. Coe possibly on PS.

LDE 90 Lawrence, Demarcus SUS/4 58 Crawford, Jack SF14 ..95 Irving, David CF15
LDT 97 McClain, Terrell R/Hou .........92 Thornton, Cedric U/Phi 67 Coe, Rodney CF16
RDT 98 Crawford, Tyrone 12/3 .........71 Collins, Maliek 16/3 .....69 Jenkins, Shaneil CF16
RDE 93 Mayowa, Benson R/Oak ......93 Russell, Ryan 15/5 .....79 Tapper, Charles 16/4

This is my depth chart to start the season:

LDE 95 Irving, David CF15 58 Crawford, Jack SF14 ..90 Lawrence, Demarcus SUS/4
LDT.92 Thornton, Cedric U/Phi 97 McClain, Terrell R/Hou
RDT 98 Crawford, Tyrone 12/3 ...69 Jenkins, Shaneil CF16 71 Collins, Maliek 16/3
RDE 93 Mayowa, Benson R/Oak7Player not yet on rosterN79 Tapper, Charles 16/4

Ryan Russell and Rodney Coe need to be on PS. We are trying to win a SB this season.

If the goal is to keep 10, then I say bye to Russell after game 4.
Agreed, Russell is my cut too, just hasn't shown me enough. Def keeping T McClain, guy is a damn monster when healthy, literally unblockable at times.
