I'll wait for more official word.

He's played with certain fractured bones in his back before.

Folks it is just about over. We have to hope that Dak can play like he has during the regular season. He's a rookie so I'm sure he's going to have ups and downs. We'll at least be able to see him play and see if he is our future starter. Tony's been a great QB but this will be 2 straight seasons he will have lost major playing time. It's time for him to start thinking about retiring.

This is the saddest news in some time. Wow. I'm as excited as anyone for Dak, but not like this. Damnit :(

Everyone feeling the need to say I told you so ... congrats. I've got some ways to advise you to celebrate that would get me banned tho

Dallas Cowboys quarterback Tony Romo is out after an MRI showed he has a broken bone in his back, coach Jason Garrett announced Saturday.

Garrett, however, would not rule the quarterback out of the season opener against the New York Giants.

Romo hurt his back on the third play of Thursday's preseason game against the Seattle Seahawks. He immediately reached for his lower back after getting sacked from behind by defensive end Cliff Avril, who jammed Romo's back into the turf in the first quarter.

ESPN staff writer Todd Archer contributed to this report.

Romo is truly one of the unluckiest athletes I have ever seen. Always gets the blame with things go wrong, and when things go right, he gets injured. It sucks for him. I really hope that he comes back and proves the haters wrong once and for all, even if it's with a team other than the cowboys.

Seems like it's gonna be closer to the 10 weeks than the six, if the bone needs to completely heal.

Sure, but it's OK for the homers to tell everybody they're stupid to worry, right?

Heck of a double standard you've got going there.

Time for him to retire. It's not just ending, it should be over.

And that has nothing to do with Prescott. I'm actually not thrilled with the idea of Prescott being the guy with no sensible fall back and not much time for him to learn.

And I was one of the few that actually wanted us to draft him prior to the draft.

This is not a great situation for the team to be out in.
