If a player comes off the PUP..he can't go back on it...that's what that states....

He either stays on it...into the regular season...misses the first 6 weeks...then has a 5 week exemption to get into game shape. Or revert to the IR.

This rule has been put into place from keeping teams from stashing players w/ fake injuries.

He can't go on it at all. If he were hurt prior to trading camp practice, he would have qualified for preseason PUP. He didn't. If he was on preseason PUP, he could have stayed there and gone on regular season PUP, like McFadden and Hanna likely will. But he practiced, so he can't.

I hope that finally clears it up for you.

I don't think they can waste a spot on Romo for 4-6 weeks on a dream he comes back early.....I think they have to IR him....that just keeps Showers on the 53 imo......they still have to add a vet QB and that means cuts somewhere else

To quote GEICO, "It's what they do"

If we can't start other Romo threads (and that's cool), does that mean we can't start a thread revisiting the naked idiocy of the Romo contract? Quarterbacks don't start winning titles after age 34.

The scenario where this team continues to think he can hold up as a starter. And he goes along.

If you are talking about 2016, then that ship has sailed, he's going to get paid for this year regardless of whether he sees the field or not. League rules prohibit releasing an injured player, and he's salary will be guaranteed after week 1, but again, even if you could, the bad PR would not be worth it. It would give players huge reservations about signing with us if we released players injured in actual games for us.

If you are talking about 2017, and the team thinks he can hold up as a starter and keeps him, that's certainly their fault, not his, because the player almost all ways will believe in themselves. Hell, Troy Aikman was cut and believed he would continue his career. If Jerry thought he had anything less, he would have been the QB in 2001.

The contract is very team friendly......the guarantees are over and he is only making 8.5m this year and 14m next year......the misconceptions about his contract are horrendous

I don't even have confidence in Romo coming back and playing the last 8-10 games without an injury. He is DONE!

Yeah, 2017. This year is effectively settled.

I don't want to see this team's fate tied to Romo's health any longer.

If Tony returns next year it will be as a back-up and he will have to re-do his deal.......I could see more guaranteed money and a huge reduction in base salary from 14m to 5m.....a 3 year/15m deal with 10m guaranteed would be fair

Like it or not, Foles would probably be a better play than Dak. Dak looks great now, but once real bullets start flying and he isn't in the shotgun 100% of the time and is facing live regular season NFL defenses i'm not expecting much. Would 10x rather have Foles out there. Rookie QBs, man.

No thank you. I was adament at the time to hell no for Foles. He has the worst feet in the NFL and is a statue. That ship has sailed.

I tend to agree, my only point, is if the cowboys are ready to move on from Romo, they can easily and will. There won't be a situation where he hold the team hostage and they can't release him due to his contract, but I don't think it's a given that he's done.

If you begin practicing in camp, you are ineligible to be on the PUP list. It's not hard to understand.

Moore's options are to either go on IR, have the Cowboys carry him as injured and waste a roster spot, or reach an injury settlement with him.
