ESPN: Jason Garrett: 'A lot of different timetables' for Tony Romo's return

There was a thread on the board a few weeks ago with Aikman saying Romo going down last season gave the team excuses. Any key injury gives Jerry an excuse to keep Garrett regardless how bad we look. With Romo going down 2 weeks before the opener it's given us time to adjust and if we can't look like a respectable football team and win some games with the talent we have offensively even with a rookie QB then Garratt needs to go at the end of this season.

And my point was that it doesn't matter if he should or shouldn't go. He won't be going anywhere regardless of what anyone here wants. Jerry's not going to pay out 18 million dollars to send him packing. For two reasons. A) He's not going pay out 18 million for nothing (obvious) and B), he loves the guy. I'm not going to debate the sanity of it. It's simply the way it is.

I don't want to play the Romo waiting game again. We played it last year. It was disappointing.

unfortunately that is what is going to happen again this year. I just can not see this team doing anything this year or future until we get someone who we can count on to play every game at qb again. I see romo playing again by the second game.

Yeaaa! A new sound byte. Stop trying to show us you are the smartest guy in the room, and win some games.

garrett always talks like he is the smartest guy in his press conferences it drives me crazy also.

He may never go anywhere as long as Jerry keeps putting butts in the seats. He has a stadium and a team that keeps fans selling out his palace regardless how the team is playing.

curious to know what the timetable is for firing Garrett. It cant happen soon enough.

This is all part of the process. He now has Dak so that guarantees another 3-4 years to progress through the motions.

FRISCO, Texas -- Dallas Cowboys quarterback Tony Romo is wearing a back brace as he begins to recover from a compression fracture of his L1 vertebra that he suffered Thursday against the Seattle Seahawks.

"We've gotten a lot of different timetables for when he can return," Garrett said. "We also know that he's played with a broken bone in his back before so there's no reason for me to stand up here and put a timetable on this. I think a lot of other people outside of this building have suggested they know what the timetable is. That's not the world we live in. We live in the world day by day, do what you can to get yourself better and we'll update you as we go."

The entire press conference is on the Cowboys App.

I don't see any way he misses more than 4 games and it wouldn't shock me for it to be less.
...and Tony will be back. I'm sure he's not going out like this. Plus Garrett is his wing man for those asking if he'll get his job back.

Well obviously in the scenario I laid out 0-3 would be worst case. I would hope that Dak could at the very least game manage a win vs. the Giants or Skins, but this coaching staff does not inspire confidence.

My point still stands though, 0-3 is not the end of the world

I wasn't poking fun at you.
I was poking fun at last year.

This doesn't even apply.

This won't be any managers yanking him back.

If you think, knowing the player and competitor that Tony is, that he won't be lobbying to get back at the helm after a near entire season injured within 2-4 games, you're being neieve.

Tony will be the one coming back to work on his own desire.

"I'm a cowboy on a steel I ride" ... "Going down... In a blaze of glory"

probably wont matter much when tony gets back season will probably pretty much be over with.

How much more can his wife Candice take?? A 36 year old in two slings last year, surgery in the offseason, and now a back brace?? Good grief, for the love of the game!! And millions! ;)

LOL

It is what it is, and Tony will be back as soon as he can.

Until then, we have a rookie fourth rounder starting for us. Maybe the best fourth rounder ever, but still, there are reasons he lasted until the fourth.

What, exactly, would you do different?

There's nothing to do now. The time to do something was years ago. Hopefully, Dak's stellar preseason translates to the regular season.

I won't argue that but it doesn't change the fact that Garrett isn't going anywhere any time soon.

It really makes you miss the days when the head coach sounded like somebody else's confused grandfather, doesn't it?

I don't know about that. The eye test has passed just like it did for Romo. Dak will play in this league. He's going to lose some games, yes, but I bet the kid wins more than he loses.

Jerry knows it and so does Jason. He may not be ready yet so I'm betting 4-3 or 5-2 when Romo is eligible.
