You're the DC DC (and a push me pull you but more on that later) and you're missing your two starting DE's and MLB and your defense hasn't looked really good all preseason. Your best LB has another knee issue.

You've got a rookie QB starting his first game and he will need the assistance of a defense not putting additional pressure on him. But he has looked much better than anticipated.

You're facing an offense that has a good QB and receivers but their OL is suspect and they've not shown the ability to sustain a run game and the strength of their team is defense and quick strikes.

You're Marinelli, what's your game plan? Do you play it safe betting that they can't sustain long drives and play bend don't break? Do you increase the blitzes because of the OL and take your chances with your secondary?

I will wait until someone posts a good one, steal it and call it my own.

Use Wilbur as a LB all over the D line for blitzing purposes

You stop the run first and foremost and play it conservative and not give up the big play. Then when your offense gets a nice lead you can begin taking chances with the blitz.

I blitz. And blitz. Then blitz some more. Make Eli make mistakes

When Dallas blitzed the Skins like crazy last year in the first game this Defense looked good. They never blitzed much before or after. So Blitz more Rod your front four aren't gonna get any pressure Rod.

I take chances and hope I can create my share of turnovers and mistakes by the other team. I'd rather give up a few quick strikes than watch my defense suffer through long, draining drives and have nothing left late. Especially if those quick strikes are countered by a pick six and some other turnovers.

However....

If my offense is humming nicely, I play a little more bend-but-don't-break, then try to win in the red zone.

Eli does not get sacked...even when the opposition has really good pass rushers. You stop the run....hopefully get them in 3rd and 7+. Hope they have a penalty or drop here and there that kills drives or forces FGs. You will have to hold them to 20 to win.

I am the Cowboys DC? I stand on the sideline and do this after every play I call..............

Considering how our games are with the Giants, it seems like they just go up and down the field on us at will.

If I'm the DC I'm rolling the dice and stacking the box while blitzing a fair amount of time. After last year, it's time to take the fight to the offense and make an effort to create turnovers. Anything is better than playing off and doing this bend but don't break crap.

Sure, we could get beat long but that's a chance I'm willing to take.

The Giants will have a decent to good Offense regardless of their line. They have a veteran QB with 2 very skilled WR. They get rid of the ball quick to cover up the OL. I think the key is not play zone as much as we used to. We need to press the outside WR but they also like to run some bunch formations, I would zone blitz that side and drop a DE to the side of the bunch to cut off the quick throw. It will take multiple fronts and coverage to get Eli to make mistakes. We can't be to blitz happy, they have the weapons to put up some points quick if we do. Instead, we play the run soundly, create some down and distance issues and pick our spots to bring the blitz. Also, we run the ball like crazy to keep the Giants O on the sideline.

I just wanted to add to your post count Coach. Lol

Great question though. If our offense doesn't score early and often we are in big trouble .

You think they'll keep our offense under 22 points?

Losing Romo didn't make Linehan's job harder, it make Marinelli's harder. The heavy yoke switched to the D when he went down.

But looks like our strength on defense is secondary so I'd blitz linebackers since they can't tackle anyway. Lol

Blitz, don't blitz, whatever. If I'm the DC I make sure guys absolutely drill OBJ early and often. Legal, but hard, and if there is a lot of talking that's even better. And I'm doubling him. He can be taken out of his game mentally. Without OBJ that's an entirely different offense.
