News: PFT: Report: Cowboys getting calls about Darren McFadden

The running game is going to determine how we do this year. Need to keep McFadden as insurance.

insurance for what if we lose Zeke and Morris, if that happens the team will have bigger issues. DMC is no longer a quality starter, yes a spot starter but not a full load guy, and actually a progress stopper for a younger and to this point more reliable Jackson.

Jackson will improve.....Mcfadden can't. He is 29, 8 years in the league with only 2 years hitting 1,000 yards.

Randle had as many TDs in one game then Mcfadden had all year

I would take a stale doughnut for him

Wasn't he 4th in yards among RB's last year? And you're wanting to put our chances on an unproven rookie from the weakest conference in the country, and get rid of the 4th best back from last year? And now with a rookie QB, McFadden is even more valuable. Some of you folks tickle me with your logic.

Do you know why he was "4th in yards among RB's last year"? Hint, it wasn't because of the 'talents' that had him averaging less than 3.4 yards per attempt for the 3 years prior.

That rookie has had his college career and, unlike McFadden, an entire offseason, training camp, and preseason, to prove to this team exactly what he can do. The only thing McFadden can do is say "I was good last year".

And now with a rookie QB, McFadden is even more valuable. Some of you folks tickle me with your logic.

It's funny that you would question others' "logic" when you don't seem to be applying any either.

well that idea totally discounts his performance last year and why people would be calling him.

yes we went young stud at rb. that takes nothing away from what mcfadden did last year and could still do in spot duty this year.

and who the hell is this jackson kid paying to get such love for someone who's yet to play a down in the NFL?

Jackson hasn't proven to be reliable in a regular season game yet (much less preseason). Until then.

Jackson (preseason) - 31/120 yds (3.9 avg)

The reason you don't keep McFadden is team building and cap based. Your RB4 should be inactive or playing on special teams. McFadden is RB4 on this team, as the three active right now are Zeke, Morris, and Dunbar. You might keep RB4 active if he has a job on special teams. So your inactive RB4 is 29 years old and has an over 2 million dollar cap hit. That's the reason you try to trade him for something. If you get to the point where he's taking the majority of snaps things have gone seriously wrong.

To me the reason you keep Jackson over McFadden isn't that Jackson is better then McFadden right now, he probably isn't. You keep Jackson over McFadden because he is younger, cheaper and with upside. Hell if you feel you need 4 RB active on gameday Jackson can play special teams for you so he's not just sitting on the sidelines collecting his 2.5 million dollar pay check.

Now it looks like the Cowboys are perfectly happy to keep him on NFI. I'm fine with that, but basically it kicks the can on this question down the road 6-8 weeks and kills any potential trade value McFadden might have.
