how can you say that?

Say what? That this defense isn't much better than the 2014 one? This team has no defensive ends, at least to start the season. Mincey was more accomplished than any DE we have on our opening day roster. We are weaker at MLB and SLB. DT should be better because that 2014 team had Hayden on it. But people were very bullish on Melton in 2014. Secondary is a bit better but we won't know for sure until we see Jones playing FS in regular games.

So right now, no, this defense isn't "that much" better than the 2014 one.

Both are/were league average at best talent wise.

We will disagree. The defensive end position is so depressing. I mean we are now making our SLB be a situational pass rushing end. LOL.

I've been waiting for a few years for Marinelli to jack em up. I am getting to the point where I wonder if Marinelli is more myth than reality at this point.

On The Fan, Jerry Jones says he also considers Kyle Wilber a secret weapon of sorts in 2016.

Well, won't hold my breath on that one.
Just like the secret sauce from a few seasons ago. Uhg Jerry.

This defense is most definitely not much better than the 2014 one. Honestly, if that was their goal in building this defense, take chances on lower rated, bargain bin players and think they can recreate 2014, LOL..................

That Kyle Wilber comment is hilarious.

This Defense should be better, and probably will be better then the 2014 & 2015 defenses.
Sean Lee is back. And though many won't agree, Mo is much improved, as he even missed most of that 2014 season. Scandrick is back from last year. Carr is back to his natural side of the ball.
Byron Jones as a true FS, allowing the SS to be a true SS, which is most likely Church. So let's see what he can do here as a true SS.
We need to see them all together and how they do. But as usual they hardly played in the PS games, so it will take a few games.

We have the best rotation at DT's for a very long time. They can create a push in the middle allowing the DE's to get more pressure. But this is in theory as we need to see it happen.
When Lawrence returns, and if Gregory is only out 4 games, him too, then that pass rush gets better.
We need to get through these 1st 4 games and Rod will need to come up with some great schemes. But let's see what happens first.

But ultimately this defense should be better. Not great, not top 10, but better. Just as long as they stop blowing those late games. That is my concern over any thing else.

I'm very surprised they went light at DE. I thought since we don't have any studs there the plan would be to send DEs in 'waves' and keep them fresh.

It was surprising. Then again, since Feb, everything they've done at DE has been surprising. About the only thing they did at DE that I really liked was draft Tapper. He was a pet cat of mine. Other than that? Just a bizarre approach to fixing an area the Jones' claimed was a big priority this offseason.

I mean I hope they know what they are doing. I would love to have to come here and start a thread and say I was totally wrong on the defensive ends as Irving and Mayowa start dominating from the outside and this team looks like a 40+ sack team.

But I just don't understand a strategy in fixing a big need that results into you starting your August camp with only ONE defensive end that has proven anything in the NFL.

Wilber has played as a pass rusher before in the 3-4, and even lined up as a DE in the 4-3.
However, I am not sold on Wilber, and the coaches like him, and his versatility. We will see if they use him correctly, or if at times he still looks lost out there.
Hopefully our DE's step up and surprise us, as not to put Wilber in that situation.
I do think the defense will improve as the year goes on, but not to top 10. But if they can play like a top 10 by the end of the season, playoff push time. That will matter the most.

Maybe they know more about this DL and the schemes just a little better than all the defensive gurus on here...just sayin'.....

Who knows?

I have a Jerry Jones-speak decoder ring and it just exploded.

Man, yours lasted longer than mine. Mine exploded back in 1989, ebay replacements are expensive, and all broken anyway.....:muttley:

We are so stacked we don't need Romo's roster spot that's just exciting news.
