Bye Week Discussion: Trade for DL?

We have already added TCrawford, RDavis and DLawrence to DE since the season started

Irving, Collins and TMcClain have showed out as DL

JCrawford, Thornton, Mayowa round out a workman rotation

I don't know what team would trade a valuable DE at this point

don't get your hopes up............unless you hear whispers of Romo and Dmac involved, which is near zero chance! lol

Kawann Short or Star Lotulelei
Carolina is basically out. Carolina picked up the option on Lotulelei and drafted Vernon Butler in RD1 of this past draft. Short is a FA after the season and wants Fletcher Cox money, so somewhere around $15-17 mil. His '16 cap is only $1mil. Not getting to the QB much this year but had 11 sacks last year. He'd be a centerpiece under tackle in Dallas defense. Lotulelei might be available instead. He hasn't shown the rush capacity he displayed in college but maybe he's scheme cuffed.

Sheldon Richardson
Jets are also basically out. Jets have Mo Wilkerson on a big contract and Leonard Williams will be soon. Playing out of position at DE. Should be playing 3 tech. Manageable contract in '16 but option year in '17 goes up to $8mil. Had 4.5 sacks in '15, 8 sacks in '14. Spotrac says market value on a new contract would be around $13mil. Was suspended 4 games at the start of last year and 1 game to start this year.

Both trades probably start at a RD1 pick.

Lesser trade would be Willie Young with Chicago. He has 6 sacks this year with basically no help. Had 6.5 last year and 9.5 with the Lions in '14. Manageable contract and probably can be had for a 3rd or 4th and maybe throw in Escobar to make room. He's 31 and a free agent in 2019.

Wake has a whopping 1.5 sacks this year. If people haven't been paying attention we don't trade for old dudes. Not happening folks. Think deeper and younger.

Young just re-upped with Chicago, IIRC.

Mike Lombardi mentioned this morning that Jerry needs to be aggressive and trade for a pass rusher and he mentioned Cameron Wake. He's probably the only guy I would consider and you probably could get him for a late rd pick since he's a free agent next year.

Maybe Robert Mathis if he's available.

He is not a free agent next year. He has a 7m salary, 3m of which is guaranteed. He is 34, coming off an Achilles injury and has one sack this year. Not sure it's worth it.

It would have been nice to have Chris Long, who signed with New England.

That is the fiscal part that people do not get.

The books have already been cooked. Stephen has already earmarked the cap dollars.

I'm willing to trade McFadden even if it only lands us a project and or JAG at DE that can be a situational rusher
adding a DE would be nice but harder to do, but finding a MLB is almost as important and alot easier to do

No one is going to give up a stud pass rusher unless he has warts, they are almost as rare as pro bowl QBs. Have to look for teams who believe they are one player away from winning their division or going all the way to SB. Vikings are thin at OL, maybe even RB. Very deep on D. Jets are not contending with only 1 win but their owner is as much of an attention ***** as Jerry is and their offense is an absolute mess especially at QB. However they are very talent rich at DL. Broncos are looking to repeat with their elite D leading way but they are putrid on offense. Jags are also deep on D, especially LB, lousy on O.
